Kirori Mal College, B.Com( Hons.)

Remarks

Before getting into Kirorimal College, I was into St Xavier's College, Kolkata. I studied there for 4 months and later decided to switch. The main reason behind this was the poor faculty of Xavier's. The admission procedure was quite smooth at the same time it was time taking, because of the pandemic there was a delay in admissions. The starting cutoffs for B.Com( Hons.) for the batch 2020-2023 was more than 98% ( best of 4 subjects, including maths). There isn't any age limit for admission. During the admission procedure, the following documents were required std 10 mark sheet, std 12 mark sheet, transfer certificate, aadhar card, and ( relevant certificates if you're applying through quota). The college also provides the student mail I'd and a contact number in case they face any problems during the admission process.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

B.Com(Hons.) would provide me with deeper knowledge and would also expand the future opportunities therefore I decided to opt for it. The course has a wide range of career options to offer after graduation. According to me, the student ratio is quite neutral. The faculty members are highly qualified and have a lot to offer the students. They are having years of experience in teaching and are really good at it. They are even easy to coordinate with and understand. Their teaching method is quite good and they even offer extra classes and take doubts separately. The schedule for our semester exams was disturbed due to the pandemic. Since our admission was delayed by 4 months, the university had to shorten up the duration of its semester to manage the delay. The examination pattern during the online classes was mainly OBE so it wasn't too difficult to pass.

Internships Opportunities

5

The placement cell of the college is very active. It comes up with new opportunities every week. The companies offer paid as well as unpaid internships. There are many NGOs offering volunteering internships as well. The stipend ranges from 1000- 20000.

Placement Experience

4

3rd semester A lot of companies visited our college last year some of them few Deloitte, Tata, Accenture, Ey, DE Shaw, PwC, Bain & Co, Futures First, etc. Many start-ups also visited the campus such as The DriveSales, MTap Technologies, The University Store, Let's Aid, Universal Tribe, Crownit, etc. Highest package- 19.25 LPA Average package - 6.02 LPA 135+ students got placed.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since Kirorimal College is a government college they don't charge us high fees. The amount charged by the college is moderate, the college even returned the amount which was paid by the student for extracurricular activities since no activities were conducted during the pandemic. The college even helped the students who lost both their parents due to covid.

Campus Life

3.5

KMC conducts a lot of fest and shows, even in the pandemic, the students did not take a back seat! All the societies of the college were actively conducting events throughout. There were competitions, webinars, podcasts, etc organized. The college is closed for the last 2 years, I never had the access to visit the library. Although I've heard from my professors that the library offers a wide variety of books and journal and are easily accessible to the students. The sports department of KMC is very active. The students here have been represented on state and national levels. This year, in 2021 a student (Yogesh)from our college won a silver medal in the Paralympic.

Placements at my college are average, students become eligible from around the 5th semester. A few companies visit for recruitment, offering roles in entry level positions. The average package is moderate, while higher package are limited. Around 70 to 80% of students get placed. I plan to focus on skill development and explore better opportunities after completing my degree.

The placements of MAIT are decent as compared to market conditions. But the data shown on website or availble at various platforms is not the reality. The mass chunk of students who get a job are placed under and around 6LPA package.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very relevant as it contains useful concepts which a management student should know. And the concepts are very comprehensive and easy to understand. Examples are given in the curriculum which prepares us for the real world. Some teachers use the presentation based teaching which is good and should be encouraged. The exams are not that difficult for one who is atleast decent in studies.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.
