Remarks
I did my Diploma for 3 years and after that, I appeared for JELET for my B.Tech. I got the essential rank that was around 1600. During the Counselling some seats were available from this college so I chose Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College because JGEC is the nearest possible college from my hometown.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose IT as my stream as I was a student in the Computer Science and Technology department. The education that provides here is good. The HOD of our department was very supportive, frank and his teaching skill was also very good. To be honest, I don't remember the education qualification of our faculty members, but as of my experience, they are highly educated and experienced in their field. We used to have two-semester a year and internal tests of 20 to 30 marks every semester.
Internships Opportunities
Because of the pandemic, I am unaware of the internships. But our seniors were interns when they were in 3rd and 4th year. One of our seniors was used to getting a 20% share from a company because he was very good at coding and had good coding knowledge.
Placement Experience
Campus Placements of students used to happen but because of the pandemic we are here giving offline placements and preparing from online classes. As far as I know, 50% of my classmates have got placed at different companies with a good package. One of the students got placed at Glassgow Scotland with a package of around 30LPA. The average percentage required to get placed in any company is like 60-70%. I am preparing for Govt job exams and also for different IT companies. All you need is hard work, self-study, and consistent effort so that you can fulfill the company's requirements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure of this college is very low as compared to some other govt. and non-govt. colleges. The semester fees for the Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil department is low as compared to CSE and IT department. Our fees were around 18000 at the time of admission after that 14k per semester, this includes exam fees, tuition fees, etc. But, the good news is we get a huge amount of scholarships like Oasis, Swami Vivekananda, etc which covers the fees of a year. Some reserved categories students get full-fee, half-fee also. We get the opportunity to participate in campus placement and different national-level competitions.
Campus Life
This is the best part of my review, the college days were really fun and lively. The Annual fest & tech fest on February and March. you will have fun, make friends, get time to meet new seniors and juniors. You can join Music Club, Dance Club, participate in sports, hackathon, GMUN events, etc. The library system is also great here.
Interview Experience
I went to Kolkata after my JELET's result came. We had counseling for choosing the college as per the seats available from that college. From there we get the allotment letter. After that, we had a document verification in college and admission process. It takes around 2-3 days.
