Entrance Preview

A 75% of marks in HSC most probably qualifies you to get into B.COM at Tolani College of Commerce and if you are an in house student (appeared for HSC from Tolani College) you certainly get through irrespective of marks due to the in house reserved quota. I scored 74% in HSC and I opt for this college for its reputed faculty and the traveling time.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course covers a variety of topics from accounts, economics, finance, law, marketing, commerce, taxation though more focus is on the accounting part. It also offers a choice to the students between management subjects or accounts subjects in the third year. Where topics are covered in more detail.

Internships Opportunities

The college do not provide with internship opportunities as such. But there are some faculty members which try to bring some opportunities for students but that is very limited.

Placement Experience

2.5

Companies like JP Morgan Chase and Tata Consultancy Services are frequent visitors at this college. Though the profiles offered are mostly in data entry or voice. It offers packages around Rs.2,00,000/- annually. Job placement is one area where the college really needs to improve on.

College Events

4

The college celebrates events in areas ranging from technical, cultural and managements. The biggest of them is the annual college feat named Talenzzia in which students participates from various colleges for completions like dance, drama, literature, music, etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is very nominal. The fees for each year is around Rs.6000 which sums upto Rs.18000 for the whole course. Apart from annual fees, it also charges for notes in some subject which is very nominal. The overall expense of the course is very nominal.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are no loan facility options provided by the college and the students are required to make their own arrangements. Though a student has an option to apply for an education loan from a bank but the formalities can be cumbersome.

Hostel Facilities

2

There are no hostel facilities provided by the college. It does has a small canteen which offers a wide variety of food options at moderate prices. Coming to the accommodation part, the students are required to make their own arrangements. There are paying guest facilities available around the locality of the college for around Rs.8,000 a month.

Alumni/Alumna

There are not much occasions where the students get to interact with alumni. As such I don't have any experience to share with respect to alumni.

Exam Structure

Exam Structure of the course is well defined and follows the rules and guidelines laid by the Mumbai University. The course have a total of 6 semesters (two in each year) out of which four are conducted in college itself and the final two semesters are conducted by the Mumbai University where the students are allocated centers to write the exams. Overall the exam structure is chilled out and easy.

Admission

Admission process is very simple and well defined. We just need to fill the admission form and attach our HSC marksheet and SSC marksheet. Once the form filling is done the college releases the merit list of candidates who have secured their admission. The selected candidates are then required to pay the fees by demand draft on the date mentioned by the college.

Faculty

4.5

The college has a very well defined combination of highly senior and experienced faculty, moderately experienced and young dynamic professors. It makes sure that the important topics in each subject are covered by field experts. The college also have a professor feedback system in place and it acts promptly on the feedback by students.

Placement Experience:

At TCSC placements are quite good as anyone. Even the SOBO colleges and Mithibai don't have placements as good as us. So this is why I always dreamt of studying here because since last 6-7 years, Thakur College placements have gone better and higher.

Remarks:

The good thing is that the college was not strict and was never forcing us to study rather it was seeing to it that it gave us proper advice and help us reach more towards my career goal. The bad part would be there were may staff which was very dull and was not kind, and no importance was given to correct their behaviour although it was evident by all.
