Course Curriculum Overview
1:8 (female:male), the course curriculum has not been updated for a long time now so we still learn the basics of engineering but do not get the opportunity to learn about up and coming things from the department. Very few faculties actually know how to teach. Its like the scene from 3 idiots where they have more knowledge than us but they don't know how to impart the same. We learn everything from YouTube videos, group studies and reference books, while notes are only helpful when the teacher teaching the subject itself is really good. Exams are timely and if you start preparing 2 weeks before, you will pass easily.
Internships Opportunities
I got an Internship at Caterpillar as a summer interns (20k stipend) Other core companies that come are Bajaj, ExxonMobil. For my project, please look into my LinkedIn page; its described there. Internship opportunities are in abundance if you have the right profile. Even if you do not get an internship via the college, we have clubs helping you do internships in startups and colleges in India/abroad
Placement Experience
at the beginning of 3rd year you have the opportunity to sit for campus internships and the same time for final year, you sit for campus placements. Some notable companies visiting the campus are Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Uber, Texas Instruments, Goldman Sachs, Caterpillar, ExxonMobil, Bajaj and many more. For circuit branches the CTC normally is 25lakhs and above and for Mech and other branches its around 10-15 lakhs. Circuit branches look for software roles but you have a huge variety in those too. All the exact branch placement percentages are available on the NITK website and brochure. After getting the degree I am doing a job in Caterpillar then maybe MS or MBA for a boost
Fee Structure And Facilities
Semester fees is around 70,000+10,000(College+Hostel) with very little or no change each year. Department wise financial assistance is given to people with low income based on their income certificate. Clubs and seniors in the college help with getting any internships/opportunities abroad or even in India (Mitacs, etc). I got an Internship in Caterpillar with a stipend of 20,000 and received a PPO offer which i accepted (CTC-10lakhs), I feel the hostel fees are fine(includes mess and other services). The food from the first year mess is edible; gets better with every year. Night canteens are better though.
Campus Life
Incident is the annual cultural fest which is the 2nd biggest fest in south india (I think). Enginner is our techincal fest which happens around October and Inci happens around January. We have a really good library with AC rooms. We also have an E-library to help us out. You can find pretty much every book there on top of course related books. Classrooms are ok. Circuit branches might have better classrooms but I feel all classrooms are good enough with some being really really good. NITK has a wide range of sports from chess to power lifting. We recently built a New Sports complex with better badminton courts. We have a huge field for both cricket and football. Swimming, basketball and even lawn tennis along with volleyball is available. We have different social groups catering to various problems in society, technical exclusive clubs like ACM, IEEE, ISTE, etc. We even have racing teams like BAJA NITK Racing and another team participating in Formula Bharat. I could go on and on about the clubs but the point is you will definitely find at least 1 club catering to your passion and interests.
Hostel Facilities
First year is you will have 3 people in a room, followed by 2 people in a room for 2nd year and for both 3rd and 4th year its single accommodation. You get 1 cupboard and table chair each. Fans and lights are present with 1-2 areas for switchboards. Bathrooms are fine if you close your eyes and pinch your noses. It kinda makes you adaptable to adverse situations. We get different food everyday of the week but the quality is not fantastic initially. It gets better with the years with the first year mess food being just edible. Registration process is simple. You just line up and get a stamp and sign on a sheet.
Admission
Its the process followed by JEE Mains. When we reached the college campus, we were helped by our seniors to understand different aspects of our college and how it functions. Basically once you reach college, seniors will help you with everything. This is the best part about NITK; you can always approach anyone without any hesitation.
