NIT Rourkela in a NUTshell

NIT Rourkela has one of the beautiful campus. Its hostel and mess facilities are also pretty good. Classes are conduced regularly. Only issue is it has strict attendance policy. So you have to always attend class and can take only very few leaves. The Club culture and sports facilities are pretty good.I was interested in Electrical engineering. NIT rourkela is one of the top NITs of the country. And it is in the same state of mine. So it was my first choice.

In a batch average student strength is around 100 for top branches like EE, ME, CS,EC,CE and 50 for rest all branches. I had a keen interest in Electrical so for me it was an easy choice. Faculty are good but not at par with IIT level professor. You can always find a difference here in IIT and NIT. But one advantage is academic pressure here is less compared to IITs which help us to explore our fields of interest.

Companies also visit foe internship offers in 5th and 6th semesters and most of them also have PPOs. But compared to number of companies visiting for placement the number is less for internships. But one can try in different IITs and other premier places for internships and referral from NIT professors also give them an edge.

7th semester students get eligibility for placement in Btech and final year Mtech students also. The placement rate is 80-90%. A lot of companies do visit the campus every year. If a student maintain his academics as an average performer also then there is every change they will be placed.

Fees are set by Ministry of Education, GoI. So there is no involvement of college. Mess fees have to be paid for the entire sem even if you skip meals in mess. Coming to scholarship, students whose parents income is less than 1 lakh get full fees waived and those below 5 lakh get two third of fees waived as per government policy. Loans are easily available from SBI and other banks as they don't hesitate ro fund NIT students. Placement are good. Even a average performing student will definitely get placed.

NIT Rourkela has one of the most beautiful campus with greenery every where. The campus is peaceful and completely safe even there is no fear in roaming inside campus in midnight also. There is a olympic size swimming pool, synthetic turf basketball and tennis court, one indoor badminton court and badminton court, gym in every hostel. There are a lot of clubs catering every other extra curricular activities. Library is very good and carter to all academic needs. The book issue system is self automated and hassel free.

Rooms are generally double shared. But final year students and Mtech, PG students get single room. Each hostel has a gym, badminton court, night canteen, and common room. Bathrooms are clean and regularly cleaned twice a day. Geysers and automatic washing machines are installed. Cold water is also available always. Mesh menu are revised every semester as per the students opinion. Food quality is good and standard. You will always be give choice between veg and non veg. So veggis people never face any problem.

No since our selection is from JEE Main direct so there is no interview or other procedure. There is direct councelling based on the rank you have obtained in JEE Main
