Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management: An insider's outlook

The main reason to go with SCEM was the amazing Placement track of the college. Compared to other colleges in Mangalore, Sahyadri had most of the things that I was looking for in an engineering college: good placements, industry experience, hands on learning, co-curricular activities, etc.Admission process includes verification of documents. Admissions are open during the months of April, May and June.Sahyadri was a good experience since there was some exposure to industry and tons of workshops and hackathons to learn from. The clubs in the college are really amazing and they help you learn so many things that are out of syllabus. A necessary thing to consider while joining would be that most of the good faculties have left for other better paying college. Anyways, there are few good lecturers who are really friendly with students. Sahyadri has a great campus and is well known for the scenic lake view near the college.

I chose CS because I felt I was more into logical stuff and wanted to build some softwares for a living.There is mentor-mentee system in SCEM where the ratio would be one faculty for 6 students.Few of the faculties are PHD holders whereas most of the them have done post graduation. The teaching methods are quite old style(board writing) except the Mathematics department who try to make it a little bit more fun. But ever since lockdown started, the teaching has shifted online. Online classes aren't that effective for most students.We have three internals with one month gap between each of the tests. Few practical subjects are of medium to hard level whereas theory subjects could be easily passed.

From 6th semester students become eligible to apply for placements.There are many companies like Adobe, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Capgemini, Cohesity, Eurofins and many other major companies visiting the college.The offered CTC would be between 3LPA-21LPA.The companies hire mostly for the role of Software Engineers, Technical Analyst, Test Engineer, Full Stack Developer and so on. Around 90% students get placed.I plan to join a good company.

My fees is around 1,08,000. There has been a reduction in tuition fees.There are few State and Centre funded merit scholarships that one can get provided one has adequate percentage of above 60% in 10th and 12th. Scholarships: Merit cum Means scholarship, Central scheme scholarship, Pragati Scholarship.There is tons of placement opportunity in the college. Some of the major companies recruit in masses from SCEM. I have been selected for Capgemini with a CTC of 4LPA.

There are tons of cultural and technical events at the college. The annual cultural fest known as 'Sinchana' has inter department competitions and other fun activities. There are several hackathons like 'HacktoberFest' that the clubs arrange to build solutions and products within a limited time. Sahyadri wins at several state level sports competitions. There wasn't any test for admission. All I needed was my rank from the Entrance test. For the recruitment process, there are 3 rounds:1)Online test: This test includes Aptitude, Logical, Programming fundamentals, Coding question.2)Technical Interview: Questions about CS. Might ask to code in some cases.3)HR Interview: This interview includes the typical HR questions like Tell me about yourself, why should we hire you, etc.
