Remarks

I applied for Delhi University in general and wanted to opt for a BSc Mathematics honours course. I got Sri Venkateswara College on the 4th cutoff list and was quite happy with it as it is considered the best co-education college on the south campus. For admission to this course best of 4 percentage is considered. I belong to the general category and my best of 4 was 95 % back then. The fourth cutoff for svc for Maths honours was 94.75 and hence I got admission. The minimum eligibility criteria for this program is you should have passed class 12th and you have to include maths in the best of 4 calculation. The admission process was offline and I went to the college, submitted my documents there, got them verified, after coming back home paid the fees and then finally got the admission.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I was interested in studying Mathematics subject and therefore chose Maths honours. The faculty at my college was amazing, many teachers were there specialised in different subjects and svc is particularly famous for its faculty and academics. We had 50 students in 1 section and separate teachers for each subject so it was quite good. All the teachers were very well qualified to have a masters degree, MPhil degree, PhD degree. There were lectures and tutorial sections as well which the teachers took very well. First, the theory portion was explained and then questions were given to us to try and then finally the questions were solved in the class. In each semester, first, the internal exams were conducted and then the external/final exams were conducted. The exams were moderate to perform but can be passed without much difficulty.

Internships Opportunities

4

Internships are offered by the college throughout the 3 years. The placement cell is very active in providing internships and every year internship fair is also held. Both unpaid and paid internships are offered, also they are majorly for summer breaks and sometimes for winter break as well. Profiles offered are Graphic Designer, social media marketing, marketing, hr, campus ambassador, finance, executive, content writing etc. Certificates and other incentives are provided here which includes cash prizes and performance based stipend as well.

Placement Experience

3

The highest package of my college 2 years back was 17 LPA which is great. The average package is 4.5 LPA. We are allowed to sit for the placements from the 3rd year i.e. 5th semester. Various profiles were offered like analyst, consultant, research analyst, data analyst, finance, risk advisory, business development, research and development etc. How many students get placed depends on various factors and vary year to year, for my senior's many students were placed and in my batch half the number of offers was there. I am pursuing my master's degree in the same field.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees of BSc mathematics course at Sri Venkateswara College range around 12k - 15k each year. The fee hikes every year by a very small amount of 1-2k. Some scholarships are available named INSPIRE (not given by the college) for BSc students. I got many internships through the campus but they were all unpaid(to the ones I was selected). The stipend for the internship ranges between 2k-10k. Campus placements are available and happen every year. Many students from maths honours get placed with an average package of 4 LPA.

Campus Life

5

The life at the campus is amazing. It is considered the best co-education college on the south campus. The social life is extraordinary here. There are many societies, clubs, cells and other organisations here ranging from cultural societies for Dance, Drama, Arts, Fine arts, Music, photography, quiz, film etc to cells like equal opportunity cell, marketing cell etc. There is a placement cell, NSS and enactus as well. There are separate societies for Hindi and English like Hindi drama and English drama. The annual fest is NEXUS conducted once a year in February/March. There is no tech fest as such but there are department fests. The library has a floor as well and books are always there except for statistics sometimes. Sports is one of the famous points of this college due to our alumni in sports, it has a big ground as well. The major sport is cricket here. There are many social groups and clubs all run by students only.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum consists of relatable topics and interesting ones as well this is what quite influenced me to take this course. We have labs which help us learn how to prepare various organic compounds which are used in many day to day products . The course also has a 4th year research program. There should be more equipments in lab for the research. The frequency is good for exams being conducted and there level is also quite good

The students become eligible for the placements provided by the college in their 3rd year, while they can pursue internship offered by the college in previous years. Average sized companies visited the campus with lots of students being placed for jobs. The highest package I am not aware of but lowest was of around 300000 pa. I plan to pursue masters after my graduation degree.

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester. I don't know a lot about campus placements but I know that there is a training and placement cell in our college that provides good packages to many students. Some students got more than 7lpa last year. I will be doing my Post graduation after college and will make a career in academics.
