Remarks
Yes. I gave an entrance exam. It was a cumulative exam for all streams of B.Sc .( i.e, B.sc Mathematics, B.sc Applied mathematics, B.sc Chemistry, B.sc Physics, B.sc ). I registered on the Jamia website jmi.ac.in But Jamia has a different website for admission-related processes which is jmicoe.in. Anyone can easily apply on this site and will get all the further details like the cutoff, result, lists of candidates, etc by just logging in. All the information like exam date, exam center, syllabus etc are easily available on these 2 websites. U just need to explore them a bit. Then after giving the entrance exam, I waited for about a month and the lists started releasing. Out of the 5 above-mentioned streams, you get admission on the basis of the preferred choices, I got my second choice. I waited and after a few days, my name came in my first preference in general quota. Jamia has Muslim, Muslim women, Kashmiri migrants, and all other minority quotas. All the best people.
Course Curriculum Overview
Okay so, I got my first preference which was B.sc Mathematics (Hons.). I chose this because of my interest in Mathematics. It was a wonderful experience being a Mathematics student at Jamia. My classroom had almost 50 students ( around 20 girls and 30 boys). In the beginning, we got trainee teachers who were doing Ph.D. from our department. Then gradually, we were appointed with department professors, some of whom were a bit disappointing. But I must say, some professors were so outstanding, with an abundance of knowledge and experience. The teachers taught us on the whiteboard with a marker. I used to copy down the notes and my classmates would Xerox them during exam time. Lol!! We had 2 sessional exams of 25 marks each per subject in every semester and end semester exams of 75 marks per subject after every 6 months!! The question papers were usually from the notes that the teachers taught with a few tricky questions from elsewhere. Overall, the syllabus was nicely framed.
Placement Experience
Placement is the only thing I have a negative impression about my course from Jamia. I think there are no proper placement facilities for small courses like mines. Students of BA, BCom, B.Sc, and other non-technical courses go through this issue. As for big courses like B.tech etc, Jamia has a very good placement record. But about my course, we had very few chances. And that too is not so interesting and attractive. We had no internship opportunities and the placement cell also works not so well for us. We were not well informed about any such companies. Like others, we were not taught about any interview ethics and resume techniques. But I've heard B.tech etc are good in this. So if you are in my type of course from Jamia, you have to work hard and do something for urself. Go for off-campus placements and internships. It will be easy to get because Jamia University has a good name. Go for higher exams like cat, gate, etc, and make your path yourself. The teachers no doubts will help you always.
Fees and Financial Aid
Talking about the fees, Compared to other universities and private colleges, Jamia had a very affordable rate and this was one of the reasons I chose Jamia !! We just had to pay rs7100 (approx) per semester in the beginning. This included all the tuition, infrastructure, lab, library, etc fees, later on, after a few protests over fees hike, our fees were reduced to around 6600 rs per semester!! So I would say.. the cost to study was pretty nice. But, on the other hand!! There were no common scholarships throughout. I am not so aware of any other sort of Financial assistance provided by Jamia. As for a job on campus with a stipend, non of my classmates including me was provided with this. This is something I might say, is a negative point about B.sc or any other not so technical course from Jamia University. I wish there was a bit more scope of internships and jobs with stipends so that it was easier for students. Other than this, Everything was great. We easily got books from the library.
Campus Life
This is the best part I suppose. Campus life at Jamia was indeed awesome! Full of greenery, plants, beautiful infrastructure, some squirrels, lawns, sports complex, full furnished libraries and reading halls, labs, canteens, and much more. The annual fest was conducted annually in the auditorium, open theatre, and surrounding areas. As I already told you, books were easily available in the library and we had a separate reading hall. Just to add, we had a separate girls' room as well!! Classrooms were equipped with chairs, tables, whiteboards, and fans. There were no air conditioners in our classrooms which made it worse in the summers but enjoyable with friends! As for sport, Jamia has an extraordinarily awesome sports complex, nicely done with indoor and outdoor game facilities. Badminton, table tennis, football, basketball, cricket are a few to name. We even had inter-department sports day competitions every year. There were many clubs to join for dance, singing, acting, etc.
