Hari Krishna Singireddi's Review On National Institute Of Technology - [NIT], Rourkela

At my Time(2012), It was AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) which was Mandatory Entrance exam to qualify, to apply for B.Tech in NITs. I scored 196/360. and my AIR was 16.619. I always wanted to do my B.Tech in one of the best branches(in my perspective) and only applied for those branches in different NITs. NIT Rourkela was the 5th option (after NIT Warangal, Surathkal, Allahabad, and Tiruchy).

Every year of the B.Tech consists of 2 semesters(total 8 semesters), and each semester of this Institute is specially designed to keep the students, their College life busy with theory classes, 3hrs of hands on Lab-Practicals and evaluations, and Teacher Assessments on daily basis. From 2nd Year onwards, you will have the choice of choosing a subject of any other branch as an Open Elective (OE).

NIT Rourkela has a strict policy of student Internship program, every B.tech student has to undergo at least a 2-month summer industrial internship before the start of the final year, as that is a part of the 7th semester. Generally, Companies which come for placements for final years also conduct selections for internships for 3rd years.

The placements in NITR, especially for CSE branch were really good and almost 90% of our batch were placed. The average package was 7 LPA. Most of the job profiles were for "Software Engineer". Well-known companies like Microsoft, Codenation, Amazon, DE Shaw, Goldman Sachs had offered placements in NITR.

The Fee structure for every NIT in India is decided by the Ministry of HRD. At our time, we use to pay an average of 40,000 per semester every year including the mess and hostel charges, but now it has been raised substantially.

Our Institutes helps in getting a loan from the SBI for your 4 years of Engineering with a low rate of interest for which the EMI can be started 1 year after the completion of your Engineering. i.e, if you are a B.Tech student you can pay after securing a Job. In this way, you can take off the burden of Fees from your parents.

NIT Rourkela is named as the second largest campus in terms of area in India after IIT Kharagpur, so you can imagine the place you get to spend for 4 years. the campus is filled with a lot of greenery around it, many Indoor and outdoor stadiums with a gigantic cricket and Football grounds.

The alumni network is really a large network especially when it comes to IITs and NITs, there are alumni all over the world belonging to NIT Rourkela. There is a separate Alumni center in the Institute. there is a "NIT Rourkela Alma Connect" highly interactive online group of more than 2000 alumni all over the world constantly posting about opportunities in their respective fields of work.

Admission to this Institute or any other NITs was always based on the score of your Entrance Examination which was AIEEE at my time, and now it is JEE. Once you qualified this exam with minimum cut-offs decided by the Institutes, you will be invited for online counselling process, where you will be given the choice of choosing the Institute and Branch that you want to join.
