A crisp recipe of becoming an Energy soldier

The admission process is of course JEE Advance. Those who qualify JEE Advance and have their ranks in the cut off range of the college can definitely fill this as the choice. The application is done by participating in josaa counselling where we need to fill our choices and as per the availability of the course one gets the college. There are reservations for SC/ST, OBC,female supernumerary and EWS candidates. I chose for petroleum engineering and the admission process was done for all the courses on a single day at Students Activities Center (SAC) . After the admission process we proceeded to the alloted Room numbers and all the necessary things were availabe at the hostel itself.

After analysing my options at the rank of 6727 from the general category I was not getting any old IITs and even I was able to get some but the branches were not appealing to me. Initially, everyone looks at the placement and this was the reason for choosing Petroleum engineering at IIT Dhanbad. I went through the college site and saw that this branch was doing well and good in terms of placement and is third in terms of offering placement so I chose this to be my destiny. We have here a good ratio of professors to students and some professors are really good in terms of delivering their subject. All the professors here are highly qualified and hold PhD and other degrees in their subject and constantly working with oil and gas companies. I would say that the teaching method is good. We have a Mid sem, two quizzes and then an end semester exam. One who has attended the classes regularly and studies even a week before the exams can do really well but it is definitely not easy to get high grades.

Internship opportunities in this department are limited to the companies that visit here. Only visiting companies offering internships are Cairn and Exxon Mobil that together hires around 10 people but you can apply to other positions as research interns in foreign universities. Students can even request the professors to guide some project they want to do and they will always help to get started.

The placements here are quite good considering this is a core branch and this legacy is continued for years. Companies like ONGC, Cairn India, Reliance Limited, Exxon Mobil, Essar Oil and gas, Mecon, Gail etc. and the average package is around 14 lacs per annum. 80-85% placement is fixed and that varies from year to varies. The highest package offered is 21 lacs and the lowest is around 11 lacs. I am looking forward to working in an oil and gas company and getting a kick start to my carrier.

It is really flexible to pay fees at the college. I would like to divide this into students from the General category, SC/ST/ Ph. Students from the General category have to fee the complete fee of around 2.5 lacs per yr including the mess fee. For the SC/ST/Ph the students have to pay the balance fees deducting the tuition fees of around 2 lacs per yr so the fees are around 40-50 K per year. Now there is also another bracket where students get relaxation based on the family income. If your family income is less than 1 lac/yr then the tuition is waived off and only the balance fees need to be paid. Similarly, if the family income is more than 1 lac and less than 5 lac then the 66% relaxation in fees is made. Details about the documents are made available by the college every year and it is easy to avail it. College also provides scholarships to students having CGPA above 7 of 10000 Rs per year in two instalments called MCM scholarship and another ISMAANA is another one.

IITs are known for the unique campus life they offer. The campus is really beautiful with the heritage building as the centre of attraction which assumes a bridal look during fests. Colleg holds the tech-fest known as Concetto that gets participation from many colleges and it is really fun to work on cool projects and enjoy at the same time. The annual cultural fest is Srijan which is the charm of the college and it is humongous. The fest has witnessed Jubin Nautiyal, Darshan Raval previously. Basant is the unique reunion fest celebrated as the silver jubilee alumni reunion. College has Asia's 2nd largest 7 storey library with all modern settings and facilities. Institute has separate grounds for athletics, football and sports complex. The college has also many clubs like Chainika Sangh, Art Freaks, LITM and WTC for dance, ADC for Dramatics, Toastmasters, Manthan the Music club then Toastmasters and many others

For the first-year students, they get the Jasper Hostel with One room two person accommodation, the allocation being random. The room is not a spacious one and hardly has much space for two persons but all gets fine within days as most of the time we are out of the room. A room has two beds and we have to purchase the mattress on our own which is available on the admission day at the hostel itself. The room gets two chairs, a cupboard, a fan, a window and most importantly a Wifi port. Mess food is not very bad and the menu keeps on rotating and we have two to three grand dinners in a semester. There is a committee for the mess which handles the mess things. Hostel fees are 15000 Rs per semester which is quite affordable.
