Remarks
Admission into IIIT Bhubaneswar can be taken by two means: For students all over India, they need to apply for JOSAA counseling, held every year after the commencement of JEE Mains. You can refer to the CollegeDunia website for years of cutoffs. Also, students residing in Odisha or having a state domicile certificate can apply to the college's internal counseling, which has a similar pattern as JOSAA. Not sure about the cutoffs for which they take students in, but if you have a rank ranging from 40k to 70k or you have reservation benefits, you can be assured of a good branch. To give you a clear picture, they can take the cutoff too low for the students having multiple reservations. Reservations can be availed based on caste, government or defense background, sports, etc. The college claims to have 50% seats for students from other states and 50% seats for Odisha students.
Course Curriculum Overview
Courses are good and related to your allotted branch. The CS branches in the college(CSE, IT, CE) have almost similar courses. Coming to the faculty, you have qualified professors, with MTech and PhDs, some from the IITs but they won't be teaching you all the courses, you will be getting assistant teachers(including MTech students) for half of your courses. Senior professors are well versed with their teaching and won't disappoint you, just following their lectures can get you good grades in your semester, but the assistant teachers are pathetic in their work. In my five-semester experience, I have been getting at least one or two such teachers each semester. They are irregular in taking classes, bad in their teaching ways, and don't even care. MTech students just take classes for the sake of a stipend. I would advise you to avoid such teachers, if possible. We have a mid sem exam, 2 quizzes, and an end sem exam each semester. Exams are easy to pass for most subjects, previous year papers FTW.
Internships Opportunities
No internships were provided by the college and almost no efforts were made by the placement cell to provide. opportunities, so much so that the students themselves have to find opportunities and the placement coordinator is just there to forward messages from LinkedIn. The college doesn't provide placement training, which are being taken by other colleges out there. The placement coordinator just keeps the students ghosted and doesn't clear up students' queries, which keeps the students in a panic situation for their futures.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for campus placements from the 7th semester onwards. Not many companies visit the campus, but students are able to get average offers from here. You would find Dell, Infosys, TCS, Mindtree visiting often, but in recent times, the scenarios are getting improved with new companies visiting each year. Companies like BrowserStack, Tekion, Deloitte have offered good packages this year, with the maximum package being around 25 lakhs. The average package is languishing in 5-7s. Good offers are low as compared to the strength of students sitting for interviews. There is no internship exposure to the students which adds to the disgrace. With placements being the most important thing to a college student, the college needs to improve its dismal situation.
Fees and Financial Aid
Despite being established by the Odisha government, their fees are as high as that of private colleges. You will be paying approx. 1.5-2 lacs per year. You can try for scholarships that are provided by the Odisha government or all India scholarships which will be notified by the college itself.
Campus Life
College life is pretty average I would say. The college hosts an annual fest named 'Advaita' every year in the month of February. Fest is famous around all the colleges in Bhubaneswar and is enjoyed by the college students. College clubs also host their flagship events, which are fun to attend but not up to the mark, just barely scratching the surface. The college has a combined large ground for football and cricket and a couple of basketball and tennis courts. You won't find a gym or swimming pool here. They have a canteen area with multiple shops, small but serves the purpose. Classrooms are spacious and projector-enabled. The library is maintained with all the required course books and is a good spot for focused study. The club culture in IIIT Bhubaneswar is degrading each year, with students not interested in taking initiatives to improve the activities and also meagre amount of support from the college staff.
Hostel Facilities
You will find three-seater, two-seater, and single-seater rooms here at IIIT Bhubaneswar. Students spend their initial years of college in three-seater rooms, then are given the option to upgrade to other choices. Three seater rooms are designed in an 'inverted T' form with the beds kept in three corners of the room. Two-seaters are just the same as a three-seater with the middle bed removed. Rooms are small but serve the purpose. There are 4-5 blocks for boys and 1-2 for the girls. Each floor has 7-8 rooms and a common toilet with Indian seats. Hostel staff makes sure to keep the floors and bathroom clean each day. All the buildings have a lift. Rooms are allotted randomly to students at the time of registration. There are two mess areas and a predecided menu for each day. They also have a separate main course menu which they can make for you on the spot. Overall meal quality and options for both the menus are good tbh. Hostel experience will be a plus point here.
