Student Review (NIT Jalandhar)

The way to get into an NIT college is by giving the JEE (Main) exam and completing the counselling process. The admission process is a bit lengthy. The college allocation is done on the basis of your All India Rank(AIR). As soon as the JEE (Advanced) rank is out the admission process starts for all IITs, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs. The first step is choice filling wherein you have to list your desired colleges. Once the branch is allotted, you'll need to report to the college for document verification and submission. There are seven rounds of counselling plus two special rounds.

The course curriculum is very vast and is up-to-date. The first year syllabus is same for every branch. After that, the subjects are based on your branch. IT curriculum includes subjects like Cryptography, Networking, Operating System, Data Mining, Java etc. I chose this course because I had great interest in computers and programming languages and also beacause of umpteen opportunities in this field. We have a batch size of around 60 students. The teachers are well qualified but are more focused on theoretical knowledge rather than practical. We have 2 minor exams and 1 end semester exam(major) in each semester. Exams are tough but regular study can help you score well.

Many companies like Paytm, Samsung, Accenture, Standard Chartered offered internships in our college. The companies start visiting the college for internships from the 3rd year. If the company is satisfied with the internship performance, it might also offer a PPO(Pre-Placement Offer) to the students.

NITJ is a government-aided institute therefore fees is quite reasonable. The fee structure is different for students from different economic backgrounds. Students who are in the economically weaker section (income less than 1 lac per annum) can avail concession in their fee by submitting their income certificate. Also fee structure is different for International students. The institute provides all the scholorships approved by the central government. State Bank of India(SBI) and Canara Bank situated on our campus provide the Facility of Education Loan.

There are two annual events organized by our Institue. Utkansh (annual cultural fest) is held in the month of March and Techniti (tech fest) is held in the month of November. The infrastructure of NITJ is quite good. We have a spacious and well-stocked library. There are a large number of books and journals available in the library that can be availed anytime. The classrooms are spacious and are fully equipped with AC. There are many societies and clubs for various student activities and interests like dancing, singing, drama, coding, etc.

Rooms are not that spacious in the girl's hostel. A separate bed and almirah are provided for each girl. The mess food is average and we have different cuisine depending upon the students boarding the hostel. In order to get the hostel accommodation, you need to visit the hostel, select the room of your choice and pay the fee. Hostel fees are paid with the Institute fees and mess fees is paid separately. In the 1st semester 35k will be charged (10k caution money) and subsequently 25k will be charged as a mess fee for each semester.
