Remarks
IIEST shibpur is now under the NIT council. So, it takes brilliant students who score high in jee mains. The cut-off ranks vary from year to year and also from one stream to another. The fees structure is also provided there. Reservation benefits are same as the other NITs. There is a reservation for SC/ST and OBC-NCL. Supernumerary seats are created for females. Admission process is fine overall. Just I would want HS and OS cutoff ranks to be equal to promote equity and talent.
Course Curriculum Overview
I took BTech in Mechanical Engineering in IIEST Shibpur through JOSAA. I have an interest in mechatronics, automation, and mechanical design and wish to pursue it. Faculty: student ratio is good at about 1:45. All the faculties are highly qualified. Almost all of them are PhD holders from IITs. Some have also authored engineering books. The faculties are research minded and distinguished in their fields. IIEST shibpur promotes higher education and research. The term exams were timely of course. They were difficult to score high, but not that difficult to pass. You had to be attentive during the professor's lectures and be well versed in the topics coming for the exams.
Internships Opportunities
Around 45-65% of the IIEST students get internships during their study period at the institute. Consequently, students also get jobs and/or valuable industry contacts through the said internships. Texas Instruments offers internships on-campus to 3rd-year students. The selection procedure is rigorous. Internships are also offered by CESC. Internships from Microsoft also are received by IIEST students every year.
Placement Experience
Students from 6th semester onwards get placements. Some students also get earlier if they are already skilled.100+ companies visited the campus and around 420 offers were made. Highest package was 39 lakhs in CST from Microsoft IDC and 12 lakhs was highest in ME. Median package in CST was 17 lakhs while in ME, it was 7lakhs. 70% and above students are placed. I have an interest in research and innovation entrepreneurship.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees have been hiked a little not much. Cost of study is similar to the other NITs. Tuition fees per semester is ? 62500. Considering you are a day scholar, u need to pay ? 71000 per semester. Hoteliers need to pay a bit higher at ? 100000 per semester( this includes mess fees). There are many scholarships available for the IIEST students from the GAABESU(Global Alumni Association of the Bengal Engineering and Science University). These, besides the tuition fees waiver based on family incomes below 1 lakh or 5 lakh, and also the NSPs, provide ample financial assistance for the financially weak students. Stipend is available for the Ph.D. students. Every year, 130+ campus placements are there for the BTech final year and Mtech students. Campus placements are good, at par with the moderate NITs and are improving every year. Placements in CS/IT branches are at par top NITs.
Campus Life
Life's good at the Campus. The Campus looks very peaceful but we students in the hostels have a lot of fun.Classroom amenities are good. The labs are old but the equipments are upgraded regularly to achieve state of the art facilities.Books and journals we require are mostly available in the library.
