Remarks
University of Rajasthan is one of oldest government institutions located in the pink city. It received 50th national rank by Center for World University Rankings (2019-20). Its management institute has found its place among the top business schools. I preferred pursuing my post graduation from here because of the good reputation and affordable fees. Also, the Institute with its highly acclaimed and accomplished faculty pool serves as a platform for rich industry interaction. To apply for the MBA programme, candidates must possess a bachelor's degree with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks. Admission is granted on the basis of PIM MAT/CAT/CMAT entrance exams scores. To fill the admission form, candidates need to register themselves at the official university website and pay an application fee of Rs. 600 (General) or Rs. 500 (SC/ST).
Course Curriculum Overview
I did my MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, UNIRAJ. It's a full-time, two year course containing 24 core subjects. Students have the option to choose from a stream of electives for specialization in areas of Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Service Management, International business and IT. The academic curriculum is up-to date and the faculty is well qualified. They help students develop advance management skills so that they are able to survive in the competitive business environment. For practical training, teachers take the students out on industrial tours. There are regular guest lectures as well as discussions with corporate executives. Exams are conducted on a regular basis. Due to covid, the term was extended but teachers made sure that exams were conducted properly. The exam structure is quite systematic. Continuous internal assessment consists of written test/presentation/project/quiz carrying a weightage of 20% while the end of semester exams consist of a 100-marks written test that has 80% weightage. To pass, students need to score atleast 36% marks in each paper.
Placement Experience
Rajasthan University organizes Placement Fairs to provide job opportunities to its talented and motivated students. From 3rd semester onwards, students are eligible for campus placement. A large number of companies visit the Placement fair with their HR Manager/ Company representative to conduct preliminary screening and offer placement to worthy candidates. Popular recruiters are Airtel, Axis Bank, Coca-Cola, ICICI, IndusInd Bank, just dial, Nestle, Pepsi, etc. This year almost 70% of the students got placed, while the rest chose to pursue higher education or work on their on business or start up. The average salary package offered was 4.8 LPA and the highest salary package would be 6.5 LPA. I seek to apply the professional knowledge attained at the University by entering into the corporate world.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Studying at University of Rajasthan is very feasible. Fees for the MBA programme is INR 5,440 for the 1st year and INR 4,775 for the 2nd year. This does not include the hostel fees and other charges. Students can rely on generous state and institutional aid for their education. Merit, caste and need based scholarships are offered by the University. To facilitate higher education among academically intelligent but poor students, the University provides financial assistance in the form of tuition fee waiver. Relaxation in tuition fee is also given to merit position holders in the university administed exam or competitive examinations. Other than this, students belonging to the reserved category can benefit from scholarships offered by the Central and State Government.
Campus Life
Life at the University campus is lively. UNIRAJ has 2 campuses, a Central Campus and a Satellite Campus comprising of the Constituent Colleges. The infrastructure structure is good. Rooms and halls are air-conditioned. Apart from the rich central library, the University houses an open air theatre, sports complex, gymnasium, canteens, nursery, community center, health care centre, etc. Wifi facility may not be available in all the colleges. Sports encouraged within the university include hockey, football, swimming, lawn tennis, etc. Besides, sessions for music, meditation and yoga are held from time to time. Historically and culturally important Indian Festivals are celebrated with great enthusiasm. Students can also explore the city of Jaipur, visit the various monuments.
Hostel Facilities
The University is currently running 19 Hostels out of which 13 are in the main campus and rest are situated in the constituent colleges. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. Hostel accommodation is available for some reserved courses/ streams/ college campuses. Hostel facility here is definitely more convenient and economical as compared to private hostels. Per year hostel fees ranges between 3.6 K to 7K. The rooms are clean and well-furnished with well-maintained washrooms. Food served by the mess is of satisfactory quality. Veg grilled sandwich, daal baati churma, pizza, pasta are some of the menu highlights. Youth festival is a memorable annual event organised in each hostel. The inter hostel Youth Festival called Basant acts as a competitive platform for the promulgation of cultural talents amongst the hostel inmates. It is important to note that if any student fails in the main examination then he/she will not be eligible for admission/ readmission in the hostel.
Admission
The selection process is based on merit demonstrated through a competitive and rigorous admission procedure including Written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. For the GD round, shortlisted candidates were given a topic or a hypothetical situation and they were asked to debate or express their point of view on the same. After that, students were called in for personal interview where in the examination panel judged them for their communication skills, personality traits, confidence level and knowledge about the business industry. Relevant work experience, past academic record and participation in extra-curricular activities can also help improve a candidate's chances of selection. I took a private coaching for my MAT exam, the teachers there were kind enough to guide me for the interview round.
