Remarks
MNIT being an NIT takes admission through JEE MAINS exam. Students who have scored 75% in 12th can apply for admissions to NIT. JEE Mains is conducted online now twice a year. Admission is given solely based on the rank achieved in JEE Mains Exam. After the declaration of the result, proper counseling is done by CSAB for admission in NITs. Students can fill the priority order according to the Institute they want admission in and seats are allocated based on ranks in JEE Mains exam.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Computer Science and Engineering because I was interested in the course and there are also a large number of opportunities in the IT sector. Our batch had 105 students including the DASA students. The professors are highly qualified and most of them have good knowledge about their subjects but you need to put the effort from your side if you want to learn something as the course is outdated. There are 2 exams conducted in a semester. If you study well just before 1-2 weeks of exams, you can get a good result.
Internships Opportunities
There are a lot of internship opportunities. The companies start visiting the campus at the start of 3rd year of internships. The internship is usually for 2 months at the end of the 3rd year. Major companies include - Amazon, Flipkart, Salesforce, Arcesium, Adobe, and a lot more. The internship stipend can vary from 30k-1.5lakh INR depending on the company.
Placement Experience
The campus placements are good. There are a lot of companies visiting the campus for placement. At the start of third-year companies start visiting the campus for internships and there are a lot of companies that provide really good internship opportunities. Then at the start of the 4th year either you would have got a PPO from the company you were interning in or the companies start vising the campus for Full-Time offers. Major companies include - Apple, Amazon, Salesforce, Arcesium, DE Shaw, Flipkart, Quadeye, Reliance, L&T, and a lot more. The highest package this year was 60LPA CTC from Apple.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are quite high if you have income above 5lakhs INR. The tuition fees alone for a year(2 sems) is 120000 INR plus you also pay some institute fee. So it roughly comes to 150000-160000 INR per year. If you have an income of less than 1lakhs then you can get a full waiver on tuition fees. There are a lot of scholarships from the state & central government which you can avail to help finance your course.
Campus Life
The campus is good infrastructure-wise. We have the largest Lecture Theatre Complex called VLTC (you can google it). All the classrooms have ACs and they are quite new so it's great. The library is also good with book banks for course books and everything you need. We have 3 fests mainly - - Cultural Fest - Blitzschlag - Tech Fest - Sphinx - Youth Fest These fests are usually conducted between Sep-Feb. These are good. The sports facilities are also up to the mark. There are a lot of clubs in the college - Technical club, Maverics - Literary Club, Photography club, NSS, UBS, etc. but activity-wise they are not very active.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are decent. You get a triple sharing room in the first year but a single room from 2nd year onwards. The rooms are good. The food quality is also OK. After a time you get used to it and it starts to taste bad like any other mess :). Hostels are available for registration during the admission process. And all students in UG courses usually get hostel rooms allotted to them.
