IIHM Kolkata Review

IIHM Kolkata is one of the best institutes in India to opt for hotel management related courses. The institute is among the top-ranking institute hospitality segment. The admission form can be filled out through the website or also by visiting the college campus. But I preferred to visit the college campus for submitting the admission. I have to clear E-CHAT (Electronic Common Hospitality Admission Test) and my admission was on the basis of my performance on E-Chat and the final selection was made through E-CHAT+10+2 academics record.

The curriculum is fully industry focus and is up to date. The curriculum mainly uses stimulative exercise techniques to teach us hospitality techniques. The curriculum is the proper mixture of theory and practicality but most of the time practical techniques are used to clear the basic hospitality concepts. The faculty of the college is very good. What I found is that the faculty of the college has a very good understanding of the hospitality industry and they also have good experience related to hospitality. The faculty was also quite cooperative and knowledgeable.

We all were provided internships in various hospitality industries plus there was a record of 100% internship placement record. Taj group, Heritage hotels like Uday villas, JW Marriott were some of the companies where we get an opportunity to work as an intern. The college also has international collaboration few of my batchmates were offered international internships.

The college has a very good placement record plus the college is very popular for placement. Some of my batchmates who have done international internships were successful in grabbing international placement. The college maintains a very good record of 80-90% placement which is a very good record in comparison to many other colleges in the competitions. Hyatt Group, Marriott, Taj Group, Le Meridien, InterContinental, Oberoi Group, ITC Hotels, Taj Hotels, Ramada, Max, are the names of some of the hotels which took part in the college placement drive. The international placement was provided in countries like the USA, France, the Middle East, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Maldives, Mauritius. The highest salary offer was around 5 LPA and the average salary offer is around 3 LPA. The learning experience in the college is very good.

The college offer scholarship only on a merit basis and to avail of scholarship our academic record of 10+2 should be very good approx one should have more than 85% and 95% marks in 12 to avail of the college scholarship.

The college campus life of the college is just good. The college mainly focuses on academic performance but that does not mean that the college does not organise any program. The college organises dances, modelling, singing, talent hunt, music and many more and the college also organises food festival which is the main attraction or the popular program of the college. The college has a WiFi facility but it is limited to only faculty. The college classrooms are well maintained. The plus point is that the college has a very nice hall where most of the hospitality-related simulative exercises are held.

During the admission we have to go through the PI round but not that tough questions are asked but one should make sure that you should have at least basic knowledge of the hospitality sector. As when I entered the interview round I have to introduce myself but in a creative way and a few questions related to some hotels and why I have chosen hospitality as a career was asked. Over an all my interview experiences were good.
