Thunchan Asokkumar's Review On Tolani Maritime Institute - [TMI], Pune

The college management is very good. Everything is always on time. From lectures to mess timing, to study hours. Faculties visiting us during study hours is good it ensures student studies very day.

I gave IIT JEE Mains Exam and I scored 91/360. But this college had its own exam known as TMISAT. I got 59/100 in it. I wanted to join merchant navy and this was the best college available for Marine Engineering,Nautical Technology and diploma in Natuical Science course.

The course is very good. Classes are quite spacious. We have a minature ship in our campus. We also have a worship which is full of machines. We get to use lathe machine in the 1st year itself.

Our college does provide internship to students who don't get placed in the "ship in campus" Prabhu Vidya. Others who get placed in merchant navy companies get stipend of INR 40,000 to INR 70,000 as far as I have heard. I can't say for sure.

In our college 30 companies come every year to find fresh batch of sea farers. Most of the students get placed. Only a few don't. People who don't get placed are asked to do their internship at Prabhu Vidhya. But if you do study well or even if you are an average student you will get placed.

There are many sports events conducted in our college. Tennis singles,tennis doubles,football events,table tennis events, cricket, handball, badminton, squash. These events are held between the four house viz. Mudliar, Master, Cassim and Mourarjee. Also there is fresher's party where there are many acts performed by seniors,freshers and also a Mr/Ms freshman of the year.

The college offers scholarship worth 70 lacs per year. The 1st 35 students of each Year as in 1st Year,2nd Year etc are awarded scholarship they have to pay less fees. Also recruiting companies offer scholarships.

The campus life is very good. We have a very busy schedule. But its very good. We have different courts to play squash,batminton, tennis, table tennis we have a swimming pool,football ground a lake in campus. There are 17 clubs in our colleges like astronomy club,adventure club, cultural club, photography club etc. They do differnet activities every month. There as as many as 300 boys but only 3 girls. The rules are pretty strict. There is no discrimination in this college.

There are a total of 320 seats. 240 for Marine Engineering students and 80 for Natutical Technology students. The rooms are quite good and we'll maintained. A single room is shared by two students. The hostel charges mess charges are included in the fees structure. Please check the above link.

Seniors are quite helpful as well as strict. They conduct and musters and they do not tolerate defaulters.

The exam structure is very good. We have two Mid Sem exams before an actual semester. The marks of Mid Semester exam are included in the calculation of our CGPA. And hence each student is forced to study for each exam. It is not a chilled schedule. The exams are not widely spaced but one can easily score good marks.

The faculty is very good. Many sirs have been masters of ships and chief engineers too. Captain Indranath Banerjee, Basu sir, Male ma'am, Supriya ma'am,Sishir Dutt sir are the best faculties of their respective subjects I have known so far. The faculties also give out their personal numbers if we have any doubts. They are quite helpful.
