Remarks

After Higher secondary, I appeared in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) and secured a general merit rank of 1452. And I got admission to the BTech program at Kalyani Government Engineering College, Electronics and Communication Engineering. I preferred ECE over CSE or IT, which is unusual though. But I got my dream branch. After WBJEE counselling college gave 10 days to submit an attested copy of documents (Aadhar card, birth certificate, domicile certificate, WBJEE rank card, WBJEE admit, 10th admit, 10th result, 12th admit, 12th result... etc) physically in college. I have to pay Rs 10255/- for my 1st semester, which includes tuition fees, library fees etc. after that I have to pay Rs 6000/- for every semester for tuition fees. From my perspective, all the steps seem to be simple so, I have no suggestions for improvement in the admission process.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I have an interest in electronics and in India semiconductor industry is growing exponentially, so I thought that ECE would be best for me. We have 57 students in our dept. and we have 10 teachers. so 6 to a 1 ratio between students and teachers. Almost all the facilities are highly qualified, and they gave their efforts to help students. Not only do they help us with the Btech syllabus, but they also help us in preparation for competitive exams (GATE etc). They give special treatment to those who have too many queries. If you follow their notes and classes, getting pass marks is not a big deal. But full marks are impossible.

Placement Experience

3

From the 7th semester, students are allowed to appear for on-campus placements. Amazon, TCS digital, TCS ninja, Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys and many other start-ups are offered on-campus. SDE at Microsoft at approx. 42lpa is the highest. and the average is around 4 LPA. About 70% of students are placed. and others choose higher studies than jobs. My plan is to appear for the GATE exam and do MTech.

Fees and Financial Aid

We have to pay when our semester starts. For my stream, I have to pay Rs 6000/- for that semester. I availed a scholarship, run by the West Bengal government, named Swami Vivekananda merit cum means scholarship. which is Rs 5000/- per month. To avail, this student's family income should be less than 2.5lakh per anum. And he or she has to secure at least 75% marks in their board's exam.

Campus Life

4.5

Espektro is the annual fest of KGEC. It is conducted from around February - march, and it is arranged for 3 days. The cultural programs are conducted at the night, and the tectrix, our tech fest is conducted in the morning. Our library has a huge book and journal collection. Students can borrow the books as well as they can read in the library. There are lots of classrooms. They are equipped with good quality boards and projectors. Annual sport is conducted by our sports club Spotrix. we have huge playgrounds. we have google developer student club, KGEC Robotics society, Entrepreneur cell KGEC, dance club Elysium, Art club Chitrank, Photography club Shutterbug, music club Ryaz, Sports club Sportix, Student Automobile club etc.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
