Remarks

For admission to BE courses at Jadavpur University, WBJEE has to give. The course also has minimum criteria of 60% score in the class 12th boards in the PCM subjects. The application form for WBJEE is available on their website during December of each year and the application is only open for a month. The application fee for a general category student is 700 INR. The exam is held once every year offline in pen and paper mode, in around April. The exam is not national, it takes place only in West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura. The exam is of 200 marks in total, 100 for Maths and 50 each for Physics and Chemistry. The cutoff rank for IT goes up to 200-250s in the WBJEE counseling and up to 400-500 in the decentralized counseling depending upon the number of seats still unfilled.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

IT has the newest and most updated syllabus among all branches in JU, so I chose it. The placements of IT is also amazing, second highest after CSE. The student-to-faculty ratio is approx 12:1 which is good. The teaching method of faculties are okayish and they are more than qualified to teach. Some of them have greater connections to help in the research field and higher studies which increase the research output of JU. There are two-term exams that occur between a gap of 4 months and they are average in difficulty, passing is easy enough for everyone.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Several top companies come to the campus for internships like Amazon, DE Shaw, CodeNation, Disney+ Hotstar, Goldman Sachs, Samsung, Wells Fargo, etc. Various tech and core roles are offered to the students like SWE intern, full-stack developer, technical analyst, financial consultant, etc. The stipend ranges from 40000 INR per month and goes well above 1 lakh per month for the top tech companies. Development projects and other different projects help students stand out and gain the exposure and experience required in the tech field. Upcoming new-age tech like Machine Learning, Artificial intelligence, blockchain, etc is promoted.

Placement Experience

4.5

The students are eligible for placements after the 6th semester. All big tech companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, DE Shaw, etc visit the campus for placements. The total number of offers cross well above 800 and the highest domestic package goes up to 65 LPA, and the average package of all branches combined goes up to 12-13 LPA. The average package of CSE/It goes well above 20 LPA. Various profiles such as SDE, Tech Analyst, Talent Specialist, etc are offered to the students. The total percentage of students getting placed is well above 85%, with the top branches having 100% placement. Several students also end up going for higher studies in top Indian and foreign universities. I will be aiming for placements after getting the degree, and maybe higher studies after getting a work experience for a couple of years.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees to study at JU are almost negligible as compared to the other top colleges like IITs, NITs, BITS, etc. Anyone should consider himself lucky enough to get a chance to study here. There are scholarships and freeships available, as well as proper financial assistance. The West Bengal government also provides several scholarships to deserving students. Campus jobs and internships are top class in JU, as much as the level of the top NITs and the lower IITs. The internship stipends start from 40000 INR and the highest goes well up to 1 lakh INR and above. The placements of IT are even more amazing, with the highest package crossing well over 1 crore INR in off-campus international offers. The highest on-campus offers go up to 60 lakh INR from companies like Google, Apple, etc. The average package lies between 18-22 LPA.

Campus Life

3.5

The annual fest or the cultural fest is called Sanskriti which is conducted in May. It is the biggest fest in Kolkata and has an outstanding footfall. The tech fest is called Srijan and it takes place in February/March. The Central library of JU has a great number of books and journals on all topics possible, and it is open to everyone daily. The IT classrooms are all air-conditioned with a proper smartboard, projector, mic speakers, and all necessary facilities. There is a full cricket ground attached to the campus, where even professional cricketers like Virat Kohli come to practice. There is also rock climbing equipment present on the campus. We also have table tennis, football and basketball courts for anyone to play. There are coding clubs, debating clubs, developer clubs, rock climbing and mountaineering, and financial and consulting clubs in the college.

Other Applied Colleges

NIT Durgapur | BTech in Computer Science

JU had better placement and research opportunities than NIT dgp.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
