Remarks

Students can get admission through WBJEE(after 12th) and JELET(After diploma to get admission directly in the 2nd year B.Tech course) examination. I Have got admission to this college after completing a diploma in Mechanical Engineering through JELET(Joint Entrance Lateral Entry Test) and secured General Merit Rank 264. I chose the Mechanical Engineering branch and was allotted this college through counselling. There are some documents which are mandatory during admission like WB Domicile certificate, JELET rank card, Seat allotment letter, ID proof,10th,12th and Diploma mark sheet (for lateral only)along with certificates, Medical certificate, Blood Group report etc(These details can be found in WBJEE website as well as college website).

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose Mechanical engineering in an era of CSE and IT because of my passion for this stream. In our department, we have 58 students. This college comes just after Jadavpur University in ranking among the state engineering colleges in West Bengal. The faculty is good with most of the professors being PhD holders and they are very good with their knowledge and teaching skills. The common assessment exam is held monthly and it is not difficult to pass.

Placement Experience

3.5

This college provides excellent placements for CSE, IT and ECE branches with a decent package. For core branches like Mechanical Engineering, the placement scenario is not so good. 10-15% of students get placed in core companies with avg salary of approx 8 LPA, and some of the others get placed in the IT companies with a 3-4 LPA salary. The main recruiters from this college are TCS Ninja, Cognizant, Capgemini, Google etc. About 60-70% of students get placed and others opt for higher studies with GATE, CAT etc.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college fee is pretty low as compared to other engineering colleges in West Bengal. The total fee of 2nd-year lateral entry is 6205 rupees which include a seat acceptance fee of counselling-5000 (tuition fee included for 3rd semester). Mechanical engineering students have to pay 3000 rupees every sem as tuition fee and rupees 1200 as MAKAUT examination fee because this college is affiliated with MAKAUT(Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology). Students can avail of a loan facility with WB Student's Credit Card scheme. They can avail scholarships like SVMCM, AIKYASHREE, OASIS, SIEMENS etc. Students who did not get any of those scholarships or loans can avail West Bengal Freeship scheme (The tuition fee gets waived).

Campus Life

4

The main asset of this college campus is the clubs. There are several clubs students can join like Student's automobile club (SAC-KGEC), Developer's Club(DSC-KGEC), Photography club (Shutterbug -KGEC), and Art club(Chitrank -KGEC), Entrepreneurship cell KGEC or KGEC E-CELL and many more. The annual cum cultural fest Espectro is organised every year, freshers welcome, Farewell programmes are also held. Sport ex, the sports tournament of kgec is organised every year where students can participate in various events. The central library building is big and has an enormous amount of books, journals etc. Students can check the availability of books through the library's webpage address. The campus is very big (approx 75 acres) with a green environment and big and airy buildings. There are 5 boys' hostels and 1 girl's hostel to accommodate students.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
