Best chemistry department in North India

The admission was on the basis of class 12 board examination marks. There was common counselling for the science stream and we were allotted courses according to the merit. I was lucky to have got admitted to the subject of my interest. I think the admission process was good and no improvement is required.

I chose chemistry because of my interest. The syllabus for the course has been carefully designed by the faculty members keeping in view that we get maximum exposure to the subject. The practicals were seriously taught and we got experience working with various instruments like NMR, Mass spectrometry, voltammetry, UV spectroscopy etc. There is a sufficient number of faculty members in the department and all of them are highly qualified and knowledgeable. Their method of teaching is really good and they gave a deep knowledge of the subject. We had exams for 3 times per semester - minor 1, minor 2 and major examinations. The system of examinations adopted by the university was quite scoring.

The course is quite affordable. There was no fee hike during the course and I think the fee structure was lower as compared to other colleges in the region. The department and University have various scholarship and financial assistance policies to help the students from economically weaker sections.

Life at the campus is really enjoyable. There are many fests and extra-curricular events that take place around the year. Every Wednesday we had an evening event called 'Mehfil' where students used to showcase their talent. We had an event called CHEEKS in our department which included many fun games like a treasure hunt, sports activities, dance events, singing competitions, art and craft events etc.

The hostels are well furnished with clean washrooms. The drainage system is proper. Every room has a different bed, table, cupboard and chair for each student. The hostel staff is quite cooperative and they listen to our problems. The meal quality is really good and the price is quite low.

There was common counselling for the science streams which included Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany, Human Genetics, Pharmaceutics and Zoology. A merit list was prepared based on the class 12 marks of the applicants. We were asked to fill the priorities for the courses and were allotted the courses based on merit. The documents were verified and the seat was allotted.
