Remarks
The admission was based on JEE Main rank. The cut-off for my college went up to rank 35000 outside Chandigarh Quota. The application form for JEE Mains is downloaded from the official website of NTA. The admission process starts after ranks are declared. There are 7+1(spot) rounds for the candidates to seek admission to their favorite colleges. There were reservation benefits for SC, OBC,ST students One improvement that I would want to see in the admission process is that it should be divided according to the number of students, else the process becomes very tardy.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Electrical Engineering because I had good knowledge of Physics and mostly in Electrical Engineering Physics is the core. There are in total 3500 students and 170 teachers in the college. So the ratio is not that good. The teachers are highly Qualified but the teaching method/style is very old and mostly bookish. They provide notes to learn by heart. The term exams were always on time, even during the Covid times. Mostly the exams were except a few like the core topics which included Power Electronics, Analog and Digital Electronics, etc.
Internships Opportunities
Many big companies like Microsoft, IBM, and Mastercard offer internships with a stipend of 10-12k.You can also get a pre-placement offer after this. Most of my friends secured PPO through the internship and did not have to sit for other companies that came to the campus. In the final year of college, we are assigned a major project and that project continues for 2 semesters i.e. 7th and 8th.The projects may be expensive like a robotic arm which costed my friend Rs 16000 in the making or it could be a simple MATLAB-run code.
Placement Experience
From the 7th semester, the placements become open. Initially all the big Companies like Bain, JP Morgan, Paytm, and American Express visit the campus. The offers made by each company range from 5-6 generally but it may even be more for companies that offer analyst roles like KPMG, Deloitte, Capgemini or even TCS and Wipro. The average offer is around 8Lakhs/annum and the highest package offered is 42 lakh/annum. The percentage of students placed is more than 65% . My target is UPSC after the degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
In the year 2019, the college hiked its fee by Rs10,000/year. The cost to study is 100000/annum. There were merit-based scholarships and also fee-waivers. Some of my friends who were from EWS category could avail it. I got a placement at BYJU's from Campus with a package of 6lakh/annum.
Campus Life
Life at the campus is very exciting. The fest of the college is PecFest. It is the largest cultural fest in North India. Many items ranging from Tech to Fashion are on display at the fest. Mostly the fest is conducted in the month of Sept-Oct but it may even vary like during Covid times it was conducted during April. The library is flourished with all kinds of books and Journals both syllabus and other. The classrooms are spacious and have A.C'c in the newly built rooms. Also, it is supported by high-speed wifi. There are all kinds of sports Football,Squash,Lawn tennis,Table Tennis,Swimming you name it. The clubs in the college are SAACS for debating,Dramatics for acting, dancing and Robotics society
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facilities are good. There are 4 hostels for boys and 2 for girls. Boys are given single rooms after the first year while girls have on sharing basis. The food provided by the mess is not that good, Most of the time we Had to go to the PEC Market to have lunch or dinner. The registration process for hostels is very easy. One can easily get the registration forms from PEC Market, fill it and deposit it with the warden and the room is allotted. Also, the Washrooms are kept clean by the workers.
Other Applied Colleges
NIT Hamirpur | Electrical Enginnering
I did not opt for this college because PEC, Chandigarh is a more reputed college.
