Overall review of IIPE Visakhapatnam

The admission process for my batch was conducted in online mode as it was held during peak covid times ( November 2020). I had to qualify for the JEE – Advanced 2020 to be eligible for this college. The application process started after the declaration of results of JEE- advanced. The forms are available on the institute’s website along with admission. So once you’ve filled out the application form, you’ll be asked to wait until they release results for different rounds. In my time we had 4 rounds and then 2 spot rounds. You’ll have to log in on the declaration date of round-wise results and check if you’ve been allotted a seat. If you are allotted a seat, you will also receive a mail, explaining the further process. You will have to make a payment of about 30,000 which will be adjusted with your fees. Then, you will have to upload your documents on the portal, and later those documents will be verified.

I chose Petroleum Engineering because the future lies in energy. The course curriculum at IIPE is specifically designed in a way that you can easily appear for GATE even in your third year. It has a good mix of both practical and theoretical knowledge. We are taught a variety of subjects for the entire duration of 4 years along with elective subjects about renewable sources of energy. The curriculum also focuses on teaching C language (in the 3rd semester ) and Python ( in the 5th semester for Petroleum Engineering) along with ML in the 7th semester. You can check out the detailed curriculum on the official website. Talking about the faculty, the entire faculty is well qualified and has a thorough knowledge of their subject. We have 2 exams every semester, mid-semester and end-semester. However, the pattern also depends on individual faculty.

3rd-year students (2019-23 Batch) got internships in the premier PSUs of India, ONGC, HPCL, IOCL, MRPL, BPCL, and ISRO to name a few. These internships were unpaid. In addition to this, the students also got paid internships from Saint Gobain (Rs.35000/- as a stipend) and SG Analytics (Rs.25000/- per month as a stipend).

The students are eligible to participate in campus placement drives as soon as their 4th year starts. While the placement season of 2021-22 has seen recruiters from the entire spectrum of the industry, this season was dominated by a variety of firms from sectors like Oil & Gas, Analytics & AI, Pharma & Chemical. The companies include core Chemical and Petroleum companies such as IOCL, ONGC, GAIL, HPCL, AkzoNobel, Shell, Torrent Gas, Saint Gobain, Linde, Indian Oil Adani Gas, Dalmia Bharat, Deccan Fine Chemicals, etc. In addition, interested students are also placed in Analytics and Consulting companies such as TCS, Accenture, Hitachi, EXL Analytics (with onsite opportunity), etc. 57 companies have visited IIPE in this placement season and 107 placement offers have been released. The highest CTC is 24 LPA and the average CTC is 9.57 LPA. Around 98% of the students are placed and are still counting.

The fee is very affordable and the college offers financial assistance to the students in the form of fee waivers. The tuition fee is Rs 75000 per semester along with miscellaneous charges that are to be paid every odd semester. The fee waivers depend on your category and family income. We don’t have our permanent campus right now, but as per the news reports we can expect to shift there in the next 2-3 years. Currently, we have our temporary campus at Andhra University (AU) which is well equipped with all facilities like classrooms, labs, library, etc. We have a freshers’ party, named “CROESO” and a technical fest named “IIPE SPE FEST” that was organized this year in March by the IIPE SPE Student Chapter. We have 4 niche-based clubs namely, Sem;colon (Coding Club ), E- Cell IIPE (Entrepreneurship Cell ), LITCOM (Literary and Communication Club), and IIPE Photo Club (Photography Club). We also have student chapters of organizations like - SPE, AAPG, and IIChe.

Since we don’t have a permanent campus yet, we have private hostels and they are pretty good. Our hostels are Most Unexceptional in class, safe, and have AC rooms, washing machines, and all other basic amenities. They also have High-speed unlimited WiFi, attached washrooms, shelves, LED TV room (common), basic gym machines, and indoor games facilities. Hostels are located at the heart of Visakhapatnam. So, you can easily find a lot of shops and malls nearby. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. The accommodation fee is INR 25000 per semester(any category) for double occupancy. Additionally, the mess charges will be around INR 5000 to 5500. The food quality is satisfactory. North Indians or scholars from any region need not worry about the menu as we have students from all over the country hence the menu is designed to take care of everyone’s needs.
