Overview of IIPE, Visakhapatnam

Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy is an institute of national importance set up by prominent Oil & Gas companies like HPCL, OIL, etc. One has to qualify for JEE advanced to be admitted into this college with additional criteria of scoring more than 70% in their Intermediate schooling. To apply for a B.Tech. degree in the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy, the application form can be found on the official website of the institute with an application fee of Rs. 1000. The selection of students is done in 4 selection rounds and 1 spot round.

Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy has a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty with PhDs from various IITs. The faculty-student ratio at IIPE is very good with almost 1 faculty for around 5 students. Mid semesters are conducted every semester which contributes to 30% of a student's marks. End semsters account for 50% of SGPA every semester. Apart from this, assignments and quizzes also contribute to a student's grade.

Students at IIPE are provided with internships from ONGC, IOCL, HPCL, MRPL, BPCL, ISRO, etc. Additionally, some students of IIPE also received a stipend of Rs. 35,000 from Saint Gobain and Rs. 25,000 from SG Analytics for interning at the respective companies.

The students are eligible for placements during their fourth year. The placements at IIPE have grown both qualitatively and quantitatively over time. Various companies from different sectors including Analytics, Oil & Gas, IT, Pharma, etc. visited the college this season. Core companies like ONGC, IOCL, HPCL, Saint Gobain, Schlumberger, etc. provided the students at IIPE with placement offers. Around 57 companies visited IIPE and have provided 106 placement offers to its students. Around 98% of the students are placed while others have opted for higher education at various IITs, IIMs and also colleges outside the country. The highest package provided to the students is of 24 Lakhs per Annum and the average package is 9.57 Lakhs per Annum.

The tuition fee for a General or an OBC student applying is Rs 75,000 per semester with a miscellaneous fee of Rs. 4,500 per semester. The fee however is waived off completely for an SC/ST or a PWD candidate and partially waived off for a General or an OBC student with an annual family income of less than Rs. 5,00,000. The hostel fee for a single occupancy room is Rs. 25,000 and that for a double occupancy room is Rs. 40,000.

Currently, IIPE has a temporary campus in Andhra University with its permanent campus under construction. The IIPE library has a wide range of books and journals available for one to read from. The facility of e-journals is also provided to individuals here. The classrooms in IIPE are fully air-conditioned and are well furnished. IIPE also provides opportunities for the students to participate in various extra-curricular activities ranging from sports to literary activities. Entrepreneurship cell, LITCOM club and semicolon club are student-led initiatives in the college.

Hostels at IIPE are well-furnished, comfortable and extremely safe. Amenities like washing machine, air-conditioner, etc. are also provided to the students. Students can opt for an air-conditioned room with some additional cost. The food is hygienic and fulfilling here. Hostel facilities can be availed during the time of admission.
