Remarks

The admission process was a very multi-stepped lengthy procedure including entrance exams, counselling, documents submission, and fee payment. The eligibility for the entrance exam was bearing 75% in the 12th Science stream for Gen/OBC students and 65% for ST/SC students. You need to have opted for PCM on the 12th. The application will be available on NTA's official website and you need to fill it out within the deadline date. You need to choose an examination centre for the entrance exam. My application fee was 650 INR. After the results were out, counselling was done for different NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. The shortlisting was done based on reservation and ranks scored.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I solely chose the Electrical dept. based on my interest. The placement history of this dept. is always high and the course in itself is very highly rated and respected. The dept has a great faculty and is well versed in their respective subjects. They are always ready to solve your doubts whether it is inside the classroom or outside. The faculty-to-student ratio for my dept. is very high and thus we sometimes face problems regarding personalized training or learning. Nevertheless, all the faculty members are either a PhD. or PG in specific fields of the course. But the only good part is their down-to-earth attitude and their gentle and humble approach. The mid-terms and end-sem were conducted time-to-time and thus revising students on all the topics taught in class. Well, I need to address that the exams and their mode of conduct are very tough though, and scoring relatively higher grades is a little bit tough in our dept. compared to others but the difficulty is for our good though.

Internships Opportunities

4

You start getting internship notifications from the 4th sem onwards but the on-campus internship opportunities approach the campus from the 3rd year and are available till the next session. These opportunities include govt sector utilities like ONGC, GAIL, NPTCL, OPTCL, etc, or private companies like Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Ola, HCL, Amazon, and Barclays. Otherwise, the internships in various IITs and IIITs are there for the whole year in case you didn't receive approval from any of the others mentioned above. Most of the jobs include building your own projects within the stipulated time which are stipend based of course, and most of the time the accommodation and travel fee is also provided by the company.

Placement Experience

4.5

NIT Rkl has a well-maintained history of campus placements. All the top branches have 90+% placements with a median salary of 15 lacs CTC per annum, the highest of 45lacs and the minimum of 9 lacs per annum. Students become eligible for placements from the 7th semester onwards. There are many MNCs, LLCs, and other private ltd companies that visit the campus for placement. The training and placement cell of the college is always up and ready to help you with it and they ensure that a maximum number of students get placed each year. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, Tata, HCL, DELL, Qualcomm, Texas, etc are names of some of the most reputed companies that visit the campus during the placement season. You can definitely sit for placements or can prepare for GATE and PSU jobs like me. As being from a core dept, chances of getting jobs in Govt sector is also high.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees compared to other govt. institutions and private engineering colleges are very minimal. The fee structure for General and OBC is a bit high but for other reserved categories, you can enjoy a considerable amount off. Like if you are a Gen/OBC student you can complete the degree(just college expenses) within 8-9lacs but for reserved categories, it varies from 3.2 -5 lacs for 4 years which is not so high. Meanwhile, you also get many on-campus as well as off-campus internships with paid tenure too, which can surely help you in compensating for your college expenses. The jobs and internships you get on-campus vary from big multinational companies like Google LLC, Microsoft, HCL, Amazon, etc to small business firms too. And you never forget the handsome stipend they pay. In your pre-final year internships, if you perform good, then you avail of PPO(pre-placement offers) from the respective company too which will reduce your stress for final year placements.

Campus Life

4.5

NIT RKL will surely impress you with its vast campus (1200 acres) with all the general requirements like Libraries, gyms, cafes, banks, temples, playgrounds, and especially the swimming pool. The college demography includes students from all the corners of not only INDIA but also from the world. Everyone is humble and kind, from friends to staff workers. Also, the seniors are friendly and there is no case for ragging, they always help you whether it's your academics or social life. We recently has the annual fest "Nitrutsav" and the tech fest "Innovision". Well, you also won't be able to take your eyes off the clubs for the college. There are more than enough clubs for every activity that you can count on and can line up with the interests of thousands of students. You can join any of them according to your interest. Clubs like 'Monday Morning', and 'ICS' are SAC approved and are renowned nationally catering to every need of students and providing us with the latest info possible.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Well, well, well, the hostels of NIT Rkl really add a cherry to the cake as they are one of the best hostels you can imagine in a 1st tier college. Rooms are well spaced, with clean washrooms, washing machines, a reading room, day and night canteens, stationery shops, badminton courts, TT tables, and volleyball courts all in one hostel. Also, you cannot forget the large mess, and the food is, well you can never compare it with the one you have at home still, it is not so good but satisfactory. The menu has a variety and you can experience it. The mess hours are strict and provide you with 4 times of meals. the hostels are very affordable with only 5000 per semester. You will be allotted hostels once the admission process is done and will be given rooms once you reach campus. However, you need to change the hostel after your fresher year. Nevertheless, the environment and surroundings of the hostels are well maintained and breath-taking. It will always give you the feeling of ecstasy.

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
