Remarks
To be admitted to any NIT or IIEST, we must pass the JEE mains exam with a score of less than 24K in the electrical department for the general category. Other reservative category cutoffs go to 28k OBC rank for my department EE.
Course Curriculum Overview
I like circuits, so I chose electrical engineering, though I am interested in coding also. And both the department and the coding culture are nice here. The student to faculty ratio is 1:90. The professors here are highly qualified and very helpful. They clear our doubts, and we can mail or text them any time for any questions in classes or assignments. Every semester we have midterm and endterm exams, which are moderate to tough in difficulty level depending upon the teachers.
Internships Opportunities
Since I am in my first year now, I am still not eligible for internships, but as I know from seniors, many went for internships at Google, Microsoft, Adobe, and Texas Instrumentas, etc. In internships, they are given projects like designing software or designing a chip. And they offer a good stipend.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for campus placements beginning in the sixth semester and internships beginning in the third and fourth semesters. Many companies visited, like Texas Instrumentas, Microsoft, Tata, Capgemini, etc. Atlassian made the highest offer of 51.2 lakhs CTC, and the average salary was 12 lakhs. Almost 80% of students were placed in almost every department. And many applied for higher studies in foreign universities and for GATE, many secured very good ranks and went to IITs for MTech. I will probably go for a corporate job first and then maybe go for an MBA degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are a little high for a government college, which is also known as an Institute of National Importance, because paying 75K per semester plus 22K for hostel is almost as much as paying for private colleges. Students can apply for national scholarships.
Campus Life
So the annual fest is Rebecca, which is organized every year but was stopped due to COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021, so it may start from this or 2023 again. For an entire year, students look forward to these 4 days of absolute ecstasy. There are clubs like reflexobeta for dance, euphony for music, rob darshan for robotics, catharsis for photography and many more, which are very active. All the classrooms are airy and well ventilated and have fans and AC. They have seats for 140 students. There are many sports events organized like inter-hostel football matches, cricket matches, inter-departmental football matches, or cricket matches. It is so exciting. We have two very big grounds called the Oval and the Lords, named after famous cricket grounds here. Being Civil, a website run by our senior, contains all of the notes and past year papers that were extremely useful during the pandemic and online classes. We have our Ramanujan central library, which has over 10,000 books and journals.
Hostel Facilities
We live in a room with four other people, each with their own table, chair, and locker bed. becomes a bit congested in the room, but this accommodation problem happened this year because of a 10% increase in seats and also because IIEST faces an accommodation problem where 25% of the students do not get hostels. The number of members in the room will be reduced in further years. Also, every semester we pay 22k for hostel living, i.e., 10k for food and 12k for living and electricity charges, which is fairly good enough. The menu is decided by the hostel representative, who is also a student among us. He/she decides the menu for each day. The food is hygienic and is eatable.
