Remarks
The college is overall good but very expensive. The college has a good reputation which is one of the reason for people dying to come in to it. The management is very money minded. The facilities are quite meager as there is no Air conditioning even in instrument labs as well as computer labs. The amount college charges it should be giving a lot more facilities than it does.
Entrance Preview
I have done diploma and scored 90.14% in my final year. This is amongst the top 3 engineering colleges in Mumbai so there was no hesitation in joining this college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is now shaping up differently as it is becoming an Autonomous institute. The previous courses were same as Mumbai University syllabus. There is not much scope from research point of view. But if you're interested in Automobile then there are different teams participating in international events across the world viz. Germany and USA.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are to be found by students themselves. College just maintains record of who took internship and which place. The college has now started to work in this direction though. They have started some website for this. Also they try to get it from different sources if possible. But no major effort in this direction until now.
Placement Experience
Placement opportunities for mechanical engineering are limited because the market is down most of the time. On an average only 8-10 companies make it for placement. Some big names are Voltas (3.5 Lpa) , Blue star (5.25lpa), Godrej (5lpa), and other small scale companies. Out of 320 only 10-15 get placed in core mechanical jobs , others have to look out for jobs in IT fields.
College Events
The college has lot of events . Prakalpa and Abhiyantriki are the tech event of the college which has technical paper presentation , project display, projects and experts coming from various top research institute like ISRO etc. Symphony is the cultural event in the college , here a lot of TV stars, singers and actors from Bollywood make it to the scene. Also you have various bands and dance events. Management events you have Maker Mela where all the innovation and marketing experts are there to evaluate your skills
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is very expensive but it goes with the reputation of college and it keeps increasing every year. As of now it is around 1,70,000₹ / year for the F.E. batch . It will end up to around 1.80 lac when they pass out. It keeps on increasing every year. You need deep pockets to study in this college.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarship program is only for the topper in the particular batch. If you have the highest marks amongst the 340 students in your batch you get the TATA scholarship which waves off your Tuition fees. There is another scholarship but only for the final year student. All the details are send to the students via email once they get in.
Campus Life
Gender ratio depends upon the stream. It is quite slender in mechanical for male to female. But in other branches it is quite equal. As it is Guju minority 59% are Gujaratis rest 50% is generally a mix. The students are from decent background and crowd is very good. There a lot of events taking place all the time in college debates, sports events, tech events etc. You can keep yourself engaged if you wish to all the time.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are good but again very expensive. It is around ₹1.8 lac/year. The mess food is decent but given that it is a Gujarati college you only get vegetarian food. If you do not wish to avail the hostel facilities then you have a lot of PGs in the nearbuy area.
Alumni/Alumna
College seniors are good and helpful but you need to be able to make friends with them and interact a lot.
Exam Structure
Exam structure is good because you have theory exams first and then practicals, so you are well prepared for the practical as you have studied all of theory. Also there are 2 test which carry 30% weightage of final scores and 10% is MCQ and the final exams account for 60% of the final scores. So it is well distributed and so you get good flow in your studies. The practicals are also evaluated in similar manner.
Admission
I had filled the Gujarati quota form available from the college website. It starts during August 2nd or 3rd week and once the form is completed within one week you get the merit list. If you are in the first 12 you can get in directly or else if someone from the top 12 does not come then you are in que acc. to your merit no. They ask for community certificate, diploma passing certificate and marksheet of SSC and diploma and A DD in favour of KJSCE during admission equal to the fees amount. After all this is done correctly, you are admitted and can join college from next day.
Faculty
Faculty is decent . Qualifications are good but not all teachers are good enough to teach the subjects. Lot of them have masters and PHD degrees but some lack teaching skills. The syllabus is covered although most of the time. Some teachers have lot of research background though, so if you get iin touch with the correct faculty you can extract a lot.
