Remarks
On the whole Pesit South Campus is a great place for people who want to learn.
Entrance Preview
I got admitted into the college under the CET quota. My ranking allowed me to opt for the Information Science stream and this is a promising department in this college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum follows the VTU syllabus and hence there haven't been many changes over the years. But apart from that we have sessions on Additional Skill Development. Research is being conducted on various topics. In the higher semesters, electives like Python are offered.
Internships Opportunities
Our college working hours are not very flexible and hence internships are a problem. In spite of this, a few students get recruited for internships from campus.
Placement Experience
PES is known to have one of the best placement drives in Bangalore. The placements are held along with the main campus. While the placements are extremely promising for the CS,IS branches, ME and ECE aren't so good. but as long as one maintains a good CGPA getting placed shouldn't be much of a problem as opportunities on campus are ample.
College Events
One of the first events in college is an inter-collegiate Hackathon named Ingenius. During the odd semesters we have a techno-cultural fest named Maaya. During the even semesters we have an electronics event named Kludge. The last big event of the year is an inter-departmental fest called Activity Day.
Fee Structure And Facilities
I was admitted under the CET quota so apart from the CET fee , the college charged me twenty thousand rupees as part of the exam fee, lab fee etc. The students availing a management seat have to pay a sum of four lakhs per annum including all miscellaneous fees.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not very sure about the scholarships offered. But any promising start up is encouraged and funded by the college authorities.
Campus Life
The atmosphere in the campus is healthy. The gender ratio is healthy in all streams except for Mechanical where the boys outnumber the girls by a vast majority. The labs are decent. We have a few clubs that function once in a while. Workshops are held from time to time. We have 2 fests each year. An inter college fest called Maaya during the odd semesters and an intra college fest during the even semesters. Our college actively participates in various sporting events. There is a healthy mix of North Indian and South Indian students. Hindi is the most widely spoken language.
Hostel Facilities
I do not stay at the hostel, so I cannot give a first hand review. But, from what I've heard the hostel rooms are okay.Four people share a room. The first year male students have a separate hostel 4 Kms off campus. The senior boys stay in campus. The girls all stay 4 Kms off campus. The mess food is not so great. There are 4 canteens in the college.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni and senior students are quite interactive. They conduct workshops from time to time and are quite approachable. They also serve as mentors during hackathons etc.
Exam Structure
Every semester three internal assessment tests are conducted. The corrections are very transparent. Students are asked to mandatorily attend these tests , failing which remedial are taken up at times. At the end of the semester, lab tests are conducted.
Admission
I got admitted to Pesit- BSC under the CET quota. After the CET counselling and allotment of college, I went to the college for the admission. The process went about pretty smoothly and we were given clear instructions of what is to be done. The details of the same were uploaded on the college website.
Faculty
The faculty is great for most part in our college. Our college has a long list of Ph.D holders who serve as the faculty. Most of them teach well. The portions are completed well ahead of time. The medium of instruction is English. Most faculty are friendly and highly knowledgeable.
