Remarks

The college life is just fabulous, with quite adept administration, which brings about positive change every years. The only drawback about studying in Manipal is the fees. So if you get a scholarship or belong to an upper class/upper-middle class family, then I suggest you join Manipal.

Entrance Preview

I gave Manipal University Open Entrance Test(MUOET) and scored 117. I decided to take this college as I didn't want to follow the crowd and study years for JEE and get into NITs and IITs. So I had to choose a private college. I looked through a lot of reviews and decided to pick MIT as it has an amazing college life with very good student projects with a lot of support from the college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course structure is quite elaborate and covers all the key concepts of Computers and Communication Engineering, and is quite up-to-date. The curriculum does lacks a bit of focus on research although the department is very active in this field and students and teachers work together on a lot of research projects every semester.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, the college does offer research internship for students of all semesters. There is no stipend for Manipal students. The experience is quite good overall. You get to learn a lot and it provides a boost to your CV. You just need to choose the right professor to work with.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placements are quite good, with an average of 4+ l.p.a package. A lot of big companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Sandisk, etc recruit students with offers going as high as 25lpa. For CSE, IT and CCE branches, companies start recruiting interns from 5th semesters and the company may offer a PPO later on to these student. The final placements start from 7th semester and go on throughout the entire semester.

College Events

5

There are 2 major events. One is TechTatva, the annual technological fest. Its a 3-4 day long fest with students from all over India competing in competitions. Its usually held in the winter semester. The other is Revels, the cultural fest. Its again a 4-5 day long event, held in the summer semester. This event is actually quite bigger than TechTatva and college is filled with people from colleges all over India. There is one big event held on the last day of Revels, called ProShow. Famous musicians, singers, DJs, comedians and bands perform in the Revels.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is a bit expensive, with average tuition fees being 3 lakhs per annum. The hostel fees vary from 80000 to 1.6 lakhs, depending on which type of room you take. Although the fees is high, I feel its definitely worth it, considering the various facilities every student is offered.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college offers scholarships for the top 1000 rankers, and freeships for top 100 rankers. There are also other various scholarships for localites or students that have studied in Manipal University affiliated schools. The college also offers AICTE scholarships for students whose family income is less than 6 lpa. Under this scholarship, the student has to pay only 80 thousand to max 1 lakh as tuition fees, instead of 3 lakhs. Since the college is closely tied with State Bank of India, its quite easy to procure an education loan from SBI.

Campus Life

5

The campus life is absolutely amazing. First years can stay out till 9:30 pm, and second years onwards, its extended till 11pm, for both boys and girls. The gender ratio is around 60:40, with number of boys being slightly more than girls. Students come here to study from not just all over India, but from all over the world. There is a lot of diversity here, with no groupism. Manipal University has the best sports complex in India, named MARENA. Fully air conditioned with amenities like jogging track, indoor cricket, football, squash, badminton, tennis, basketball, table tennis and a massive gymnasium. It also has locker rooms and steam and sauna baths. There are also local sports grounds and basketball courts in every campus, with MIT having a recreation centre too. Also every hostel has a common table tennis room. MIT has around 10 student project teams which cover areas like formula racing, offroad racing, robotics, aerial drones, solar/electric cars, satellites and mars rovers and autonomous cars. All of them are funded by the college and also have popular sponsors like Nvidia, Microsoft, National Instruments, HP, Toyota, Honda, TATA, etc. Also we have around 50 clubs, covering fields for every branch, along with dance, music, arts, literature, etc. All the clubs have quite diverse students, with both boys and girls. Board transfers are held every year, and almost all clubs have their own parties. These are also either funded by college or external sponsors.

Hostel Facilities

5

There are multiple types of hostel rooms offered. There are non-AC, non-attached triple/double/single sharing, non-AC attached double/single, AC attached double/single and single deluxe AC attached rooms. The hostels are very well maintained, and there are a large number of hostel rooms available for each type. The mess food is definitely better compared to other colleges, with Annapoorna mess being the best. The Food Court is the biggest mess in the campus and is completely air conditioned, with 4 meals a day - breakfast, lunch, high tea and dinner.

Alumni/Alumna

Manipal has a large alumni network with some famous people like Rajeev Suri(CEO Nokia), Satya Nadella(CEO Microsoft), Vikas Khanna(famous chef), etc. The seniors are also very helpful. Also Manipal has zero tolerance towards ragging and hence its virtually non-existent. The seniors guide you through your academics and extra-curricular activities a lot, and very friendly.

Exam Structure

The overall evaluation structure is very relaxed. The internals is worth 50 marks, broken down into 2 parts. 1) 5 Assignments worth 4 marks each, total 20. The assignments are conducted throughout the semester. Once the assignment is given to students, a 4 marks evaluation is conducted after a week, based on the questions given in the assignment. There are no written submissions. 2) 2 Sessionals worth 15 each, total 30. The sessionals are 1 hour long papers held twice a semester for each subject. The final exams is worth 50 marks and is 3 hours long held at the end of the semester. The labs have 10 marks evaluations(4 for manual, 4 for viva, 2 for execution), either every lab or every alternate lab, depends on the subject. These internal evaluations consist of 60 marks. The final lab exam is worth 40 marks and is 2 hours long, 1 hour for writing, 1 hour for execution.

Admission

The admission procedure was completely through online counseling and was very straightforward. The counseling started in the first or second week of June, and all eligible students were sent an email informing them about it, along with instructions on how to access the counseling portal. There were 4 stages, with an extra spot round after the college starts. I had applied through the AICTE category and got CCE branch in the second round.

Faculty

3.5

There are a few highly distinguished professors who are quite active in research and are good teachers at the same time. The remaining professors are above average, with a few rare exceptions, of course. The faculty is quite supportive and encouraging, and can be approached at any time by the student, though a few teachers are lacking in the knowledge of the subjects they are assigned to teach.
