Remarks
Even though my experience in Khalsa was good but still I feel they can do a lot better. The management is a bit anarchically inclined. They should be more responsive to students' needs.
Entrance Preview
I got admission to Khalsa on the basis of my CBSE senior secondary board examinations result. I had scored back then in 2011 93.75% aggregate from the best 4 subjects. I always wanted a college in North Campus of Delhi University. I was struggling between KMC or Khalsa. I chose the latter because I had heard of a good crowd that the college had to offer in comparison to other colleges in campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
To be quite honest, the Bcom course curriculum by Delhi University is not very great. That's what I feel at least. It's more or less based on cramming and learning only rather than understanding how things work in practicality. The course has very less to offer to actually understanding how to excel in commerce as an entrepreneur. The course is quite dull and monotonous and doesn't have any practical angle to it.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, my college does provide internships but the scope for the sophomore students is quite less as most of those internships aren't very well paid. I think that is one are where it can grow itself.
Placement Experience
The placements and job opportunities on the other hand is really good. Every year we get all the Big 4s like E&Y, KPMG, Delloitte, PWC and also the other big names such as Ogilvy, Zomato, SBI, Grant Thorton. The average offer was of 4.8 p.a and I'd say at least 5/6 out of every 10 students got placed somewhere or the other.
College Events
The college fest here is actually quite of a huge deal here. Even though it isn't allowed to be extended till later in the evening but still the cultural fest is done really well. It always has a good turnout thanks to the star studded performances by the loved celebrities from the likes of Gippy Grewal to Diljeet. Everyone gets crazy during the fest time. There's just as much excitement for the departmental fests too be it the commerce fest Comzone or the theater fest Pratyaksh. It's always a good time there.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure of Khalsa is overall feasible even though it's one of the most expensive in Delhi University as compared to the other colleges. During my time I paid around 17,000 for two semesters. So, that'd be like 55000-56000 for the entire course of 3 years.
Fees and Financial Aid
This is one area I can't be too sure of. Even though the college has its own bank so I'm guessing there would be such facilities for loans. As for scholarships, the topper of the batch year had her fees waived off.
Campus Life
DU campus life is one such life that emphasise much more on extra curricular than it does on the academics of the students. In Khalsa, We've had our Divinity Society, Bhangra Dance Society, there's newly formed western dance society too that goes by the name- Etram, and the best one being the theater society by the name ANKUR which has won Khalsa many awards acorss the country. Also, Khalsa has a strong political students party to too that is aligned to DUSU for its working and also organizes the Khalsa's cultural fest Lashkara. In Khalsa at least the gender ratio is almost equal only. Khalsa didn't do very well in extra curriculars earlier but it is expanding its scope steadily. Apart from that there always are the independent student organizations like The Education Tree, AIESEC and LFT that add to the experience.
Hostel Facilities
Even though I wasn't a hosteler so I can't be entirely objective about it. But, as much as I've seen the college hostel is pretty good in Khalsa, IT's hygienic and not shady with proper lighting and ample security. It's on a sharing basis only. As per the PGs are concerned that is more popular in DU more so than Hostel. All my friends were either in a PG or a flat of their own. The average rates for a very good flat would range from 25000 to 30000 for a triple or quadruple occupancy.
Alumni/Alumna
The college seniors are the best ones here. I remember most of my friends in college were seniors only who were so welcoming. They ragged us playfully. They're always there to give genuine advice. It actually became difficult for me in the second year of my college as my then third year seniors had graduated and then i felt a bit left out.
Exam Structure
The exams structure is actually quite chilled out. One doesn't really have to worry about their academia all the time. I used to study by the close of semester only and the teachers were lenient too when it came to Internals. They were very accommodating. They would frequently reschedule the internals if requested by the class. Take multiple exams if one didn't score well. Give out good time for the assignments and projects too that were scored by them.
Admission
The admission process to Khalsa was quite smooth actually. Back then we didn't have the centralized university forms like we do now. The first cut off had just released by the college and all I had to do is to wait until I cleared the cut off. I got my admission in the second cut off only. Also, back then a new regulation had passed by the university that a college can't deny admission to any student who had cleared the cut off even if the course seats were over occupied. So, there wasn't any panic back then. i just filled the requisite college forms, showed my school mark sheet and other requisite documents and the deposited the admission fee there and then.
Faculty
The faculty of the college is about mediocre to good I'd say. There's a mixed lot in my department. Some of the teachers tremendously well and make learning fun and constructive whereas there are a few who are very dull in their teaching method who lay emphasis on rote learning. But, it's good overall. I had friends in the literature department, all seemed to really like their teachers more so.
