Remarks
The college was good in most ways only drawback is that the equipments used in the lab should be upgraded from time to time. There should be more labs based on data structure to get more in depth idea about it.
Entrance Preview
I didn't write any entrance exams, i got admission through counseling using Diploma Marks. I scored 95.58% during my Diploma. The reason i chose this college is, it is one of the top engineering college in Tamilnadu. And I particularly like the IT course so i chose the course.
Course Curriculum Overview
the curriculum mainly focused on the core subjects like Java, datastructures, operating systems, networking and embedded systems. They also included in depth subjects in other dept like signals and systems, digital signal processing and electrical and electronics. The college encouraged us for doing research and based on quality they funded the projects. Mostly the subjects didn't focus on research.
Internships Opportunities
No. Our college didn't give us proper leave or made any arrangements for an Internship to all. They allowed internship for one month max(continued with vacation leave in december), only to those who scored above 8.5 CGPA.
Placement Experience
Nearly 45 out of 67 were placed in our Dept. The others were either not interested in placement or had an arrear. Nearly 80 companies came to our college. Most of the companies offered us a salary package of 4.5LPA (Average). 10 companies offered us 9LPA and 4 companies offered us 12, 14, 18 LPA.
College Events
The cultural events were conducted once in a year and it was a three day celebration. Each department 3rd year students conduct the events and either an experienced staff or external was arranged to judge some events. Each dept had different events, conducted workshops and held fun events for the students to enjoy.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Our college is a Government aided institution so the fees structure varied for unaided and aided courses. My course was unaided, even so the fees was feasible when compare to other colleges in Tamilnadu. Every year it came around 50k and exam fees around 2k for each semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college didn't offer any scholarships. We used only government scholarships given to us. It was around 6k per year. It varies based on the caste of the student.
Campus Life
The campus was cool and there were no restrictions in dress code. we can wear anything except for 3/4 and round neck T-shirts. Both the male and female students were treated as equal and there were no restrictions between us. Culturals were conducted by students and college didn't give any funding for it. We ourselves arranged for the funding. Our students participated in extracurricular activities and my friend made a robot that can be used in library to get the desired book from the shelf.
Hostel Facilities
I was in a PG during my college time. The PG rent was around Rs.1500 per month and it didn't include any food. We had to eat in nearby restaurants. The hostel facilites so far i know were not that good, each room were allocated for two students. Inside the room there were no fans and the bathrooms didn't have any geyser for the students.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network was very helpful. Everytime when a company arrives we contacted our seniors in that company and they helped us in getting placed in that company.
Exam Structure
The exams were cool and the lab sessions were conducted three days in a week. About the exam structure, total marks were 100 and out of it 25 marks were from Internals which was calculated based on our assignments and monthly tests and our lab marks. Remaining 75 marks were taken from the semester exams we wrote. Out of this one should at least score 50 to get pass in a subject.
Admission
I got admitted to CIT using my Diploma marks. I got 95.58% in my Diploma in Computer Engineering. The counseling was held at Alagappa university, Karaikudi, Tamilnadu. Based on the marks we scored, a rank table was created and based on the table students were called and got admission in college.
Faculty
The faculty in our college were highly experienced and most of them hold a Phd. Each of the staff concentrated on teaching the subject from ground up and very interactive. They also taught outside the subjects to give us a brief explanation. They even allowed the interested students to work on their Phd projects.
