Remarks
First I applied for Jee mains(Joint entrance exam). I got a decent rank in Jee mains. I also applied for Jee advance but I didn't get a rank to go for the better department of top IITs. My AIR rank in Jee mains was 4706. I did counselling through JOSAA. And I got a Computer science branch at NIT Rourkela (OBC reservation applied). After that, my face(faculty advisor) at college reached out to me for further procedures like document verification and all. And this was a smooth process. One can get fee concessions based on their family's income.
Course Curriculum Overview
I always wanted to work with computers and Now I am loving this. The course is fine but it is pretty old and needs to be changed. But overall it is fine. The faculty is also good. However, you can feel at some point that you do not understand much in the subjects but if you do a little self-study then you will be good to go. It is not too difficult to pass the terms. We can study a little during classes. There are two semesters in a year each having midterms and end terms.
Internships Opportunities
Companies start coming at the start of the 5th semester. They provide different tech and core roles. The main thing is if you want to get in a software profile then start preparing(coding) from at least 2nd year. The main concepts asked include Data structures and algorithms, and OOps DBMS.
Placement Experience
At the start of 4th year(7th semester) companies start to come to campus for recruitment. The highest package was 56 lac and the average is 20lac. And placement percentage of the CSE branch is 100%. Companies come for different profiles like software and core.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is well-defined. We can get a fee waiver according to family income. Below are some details: income <1lac => No tuition fee income is 1lac to 5lac => 33% tuition fee income > 5 lac => full tuition fee In all the above cases, we have to give the full hostel fee(if you are a hosteler) and others. You can also apply for a loan which you can pay later after your placement.
Campus Life
The campus of NIT Rourkela is lit. It is really good. Various tech fests like INNOVISION, and festnitr happens every year. The library is pretty vast and almost every course book is available. Some other books are also available. The classrooms are also good. Different buildings for different departments. All types of labs are there. Almost all sports activities happen here. Different competitions also happen from time to time. All hostels have their own sports area. NIT Rourkela has a very nice club culture. You can find a club for every hobby one can have. It can be technology, music, cricket, writing, or anything.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are quite good. We have separate area for sports, music in our hostel. Mess quality is fine. But obviously we can't get taste of Mom's food :( Hostels were alloted randomly at first. But we can change it later by following the process.
Other Applied Colleges
Malaviya National Institute of Technology - [MNIT] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Rank of NIT Rourkela is better. Campus is also large and much better. And placements are also high.
