Remarks
The admission was through JEE Mains only. So firstly you need to qualify for JEE Mains. After that, you need to visit JOSAA and get your admission letter and then physically visit the institute, and then they will check the documents that you submitted during counseling. If you are having any category then you need to take a category certificate and some documents asked by the institute ( not asked for by JOSAA). All details will be mentioned on the official site of the college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is similar to that of other NITs and nothing much difference. The faculty members are highly knowledgeable and approachable. They clear your doubts from time to time. I chose civil engineering because I wanted to serve my nation in its building and infrastructure. There is a good amount of faculty: student ratio. Some professors are old and hence they still have old-school style methods of teaching but new teachers and professors make teaching interactive by introducing smart boards and learning with AI.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are good in non-core branches and companies like PWC, Texas Instruments offer PPOs to students who are qualified for their work. Each year the number of PPOs is increasing as companies are showing interest in students from this college. The projects are lab-based and if someone wants to continue the work they are allowed to research the topic easily.
Placement Experience
Placements are quite good over here and one becomes eligible for placements from the 6th semester. Every year hundreds of companies visit and give good CTC. In 2021, one got a 51lpa package from Computer Science Department in Atlassian. Around 82% of students from all branches get placed. After my Degree, I have plans for Gate exams and to do further higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure will be available on the official website of JoSAA or even on the institute site. There are certainly some fee hikes post-Covid because of shook financial condition of the country. But one must not worry because he/she may be scholarship and waiver if one has income less than 5 LPA. Even if he doesn't get a waiver from college then he must apply off campus for the same.
Campus Life
Campus life is far better than private colleges in India as there are no PDA charges. There are many 2 important fests on our campus. The technical fest is INSTRUO and the annual fest is REBECA. There is also a library that holds over 100000 journals and books and is one of the oldest in India. The classroom is quite good and there are fans for 1st-year students. But don't worry you will get AC from the Second year if you don't belong to the civil or mechanical branch. There are 2 grounds Oval and the Lords. One is football and the other is cricket ground. There are many clubs and one may join accordingly to their interests. There is an EDC club that is run by students and funded by the institute.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are good at IIEST. There are halls for seniors and hostels for juniors. Hostels are good and as per rent, it is worth it! One room has 2 fans, 2 lights and 4 bedroom accommodation with 4 almirahs. The mess at every hostel is good. The everyday menu is decided by the mess managers which is among a student like us. You don't need to worry about accommodation if you are far from College and about 25 km far. You will get a hostel and the process is simple once you get admitted to the institute. But if you don't get a hostel then you can look for pg which is near the college at affordable rates.
Other Applied Colleges
Jadavpur University - [JU] | Bachelor of Engineering [BE] (Civil Engineering)
I didn't opt because this college wasn't having the diversity I wanted.
