Course Curriculum Overview

4

The faculty-student ratio is 1:5 which is pretty impressive with mostly all the faculty holding PhD and post-doctoral degrees with advanced research backgrounds. The research-oriented works are always on the go at Jadavpur University and in IEE. All the professors have great teaching experience and techniques and GATE qualified too. There are 2 class tests that are conducted every semester for 6 months having a total weightage of 30. And the end-semester exams have a weightage of 70. The questions asked are pretty standard. Following only the teachings of professors in class is sufficient, without those class notes it is pretty difficult

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Internship occurs at the start of 3rd year in the months of July to November. There are many roles that are offered, including SDE(software development engineer) analogue engineer, data analyst, and process instrumentation engineer. And the stipend varies from company to company. There are various rounds and different projects based on which company students apply to. Yeah, companies have their own coding round and interviews. Core companies take projects and then interviews.

Placement Experience

4

Over 95% of students get placed in my department of Instrumentation and electronics engineering (IEE). From starting of 4th year, students can seat for interviews and grab placements in top firms. All companies visit here with offers like Amazon, Flipkart, Microsoft, Adobe, ZS associates, DE Shaw, IDFC first bank, wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Texas instruments, micron, Samsung, tata, PWC, airtel, reliance, ONGC, Gail, bpcl, hpcl, Nvidia, Intel and many more. Opportunities are endless. The average package is 15lpa and the highest is 42lpa. 95% of students got placed in IEE. After getting the degree, I will continue with the placement that I will get(hopefully a tech company) and after a few years of the experience I want to do MBA and hope for a promotion.

Fees and Financial Aid

The cost of the study is 2605 rs per year and semester fees includes 10rs per subject and 4rs for a grade card. Not a heavy calculation for sure. Jokes apart, there is no extra payment required if hostel fees are not taken into account. Jadavpur University is a public institution under the state government of West Bengal with heavy donations from other institutions like DRDO, so the price hike is out of the question. Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship, West Bengal Post-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST/OBC and West Bengal Free-Ship Scholarship are availed by many students at Jadavpur University.

Campus Life

4.5

There are broadly two important fests namely Srijan (annual tech fest) and Sanskriti (annual cultural fest) which are generally conducted in April and May respectively. There is also the fresher's event which consists of a series of games and cultural events. The library of Jadavpur university on both campuses is filled with adequate resources both offline and online. Departmental books, research articles, topic wise books not related to the curriculum but academic. Also a wide variety of storybooks and magazines. JU has its own magazine (Indie publishing). Classrooms don't have AC but fans are present, and there are basic benches for students to sit and attend classes with projectors. There are numerous social groups made and run by students ranging from science to sports to literature and films. Chess, debate, dance, music, science, anime, fashion, cricket, football, coding, entrepreneurial, drama, literature, film, photography, Motosport and many more clubs. All of them are highly active.

Interview Experience

4

The only written test, that is mandatory for admission in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination. No further eligibility criteria are required. There are no management seats also. The Wbjee exam contains 2 papers. Mathematics - 50 single correct Questions of 1 mark and -1/4 marks in Category 1, 15 single correct Questions of 2 marks and -1 marks in Category 2 and 10 multiple correct Questions of 2 marks and 0 negative marks in Category 3. Category 3 has partial marks for correct answers only. Physics and Chemistry - 30 Questions in Category 1, 5 Questions each in Category 2 and 3. Previous Year Questions of wbjee is a must-solve along with NCERT and S.N. De for mathematics. Also, speed and accuracy of solving questions are important factors in wbjee. Give as many t3sts as possible before the exam. Physics and Chemistry (paper 2) is relatively on the simpler side, but again speed matters the most.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
