After class 12th board examinations I opted for the WEST BENGAL JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION And secured an appropriate rank and opted for online counselling and got selected for the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY department at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College( Autonomous) under MAKAUT. I filled out the form for the exam online and opted for the offline mode of examination at the examination centre. 5000 fees for counselling was taken by the examination board and for filling the form a fixed amount was taken. Reservation benefits as such yes, of course, I got a non-core branch at a rank where I could have got a core branch. The improvement as such I think we had to come through the admission process 3 times to the college the different colleges had online admission processes.

Because I was always interested in non- core branch and wanted to become a software engineer in future, I opted for B.Tech in Information Technology. Our department has 6 faculties and 60 students so 1:6 ratio. Qualification - All the faculties have master's degrees and some have Ph. D.s also. Exams are as per the college curriculum as it is an autonomous college, and yes it is difficult sometimes to pass.

Ericsson provides internship + Full-time offer with a good stipend, IBM(pool- campus)- intern+FTE with an ample amount of stipend. TCS provides internships for a good experience, and Cerebral Technologies, and Netmeds also provide intern+ FTE.

In my view, many students start applying in 4th semester and get a full-time offer from there afterwards. Basically from the 6th-semester campus drive starts means after clearing the inline assessment round companies visit for interviews. Companies like AMAZON, ERICSSON, COGNIZANT, CLIMATE CONNECT DIGITAL, CELEBAL TECHNOLOGIES, INNOVAPPTIVE, NETMEDS, YELLOW.AI, LAB VANTAGE, LARSEN AND TURBO, WILLIS TOWER WATSON, SA LPG, SCENES, etc. the highest package as per statistics highest is 12.5 LPA and the lowest is 4 LPA. From non-core 95% get placed and more than half from core branches cause many students are opting for GATE. After getting my degree a proper satisfying job at my dream company and after 2 -3 yrs higher studies for masters abroad.

I think for a State government engineering college it is a bit too high fees including the hostel and mess, etc. Everyone could not afford it and as it is a government college so more facilities at a cheaper cost could be availed. various scholarships as per course are provided after verifying eligibility criteria. Campus drives are the most successful ones, with a satisfying package and ample people got to work with huge MNCs and Software Companies.

The Tech Fest of our college is named "SRISTI" conducted in March and the cultural fest of our college is named "JECLAT" in June. Varieties of books available of different genres at the library, very helpful for exams. As per Government College classrooms are decent enough, clean have proper amenities. Annual Sports Day is conducted where students and professors also participate, very much enthusiastic and also marathons, cycle races and much more events are conducted. Extracurricular as such badminton courts and gym facilities are available. Obviously, various clubs recognised by the central body are run by college students like Coders Club, IEEE, CFI(Center For Innovation), Calliphony, etc.

The hostel rooms are big enough. At Ladies Hostel we stay 3 people in a single room with proper ventilation and proper public bathrooms on every floor and the meal is way too good as compared to another government hostel, the menu is selected as per the boarder's choice. Registration is done after admission to the college and the 1st-semester boarding fees have to be paid for the rest amount, we can pay afterwards according to the deadlines given. Near to the college, there is a huge market and also a bus stand and train station are at a distance of 2 to 3 km. PGs are available there.
