Life at NITK.

Overall, i was quite fortunate to attend a NITK. Some of the best years of a student's life are in his college, and that rings true for me too. I enjoyed having a lot of friends, a wonderful faculty, amazin scenery to visit every day in the lighthouse beach , and an abundance of knowledge that i may or may not have got in a different college. Overall , i would say if you get a chance, do not miss to be a part of my NITK.

AIEEE, 69778, This seemed like the best option to get into, and was not far from home. The course i was getting was Computer Science which i had interest in as well.

The first two semesters did a basic of Physics and Chemistry, and later on dwelved into the spicifics of my branch, i.e., conputer technologies. We studied a variety of topics like Computer Networking, Object Oriented Programming and The basics of Data Structures and Algorithms.

The companies which provide internships , they do so for the 3rd year students only. Some of them are Microsoft and Qualcomm.

Placements happen as soon as final year begin, and a barrage of companies start arriving in the beginning , in hopes of procuring the higher scoring students. Even so, there are companies suited for every type of student, there are banking companies which offer engineering students jobs, which is saying a lot.

The Tech Fest was called E.N.G.I.N.E.E.R. A number of colleges participated in this Inter-college festival , and we had evens like Tech Nites, Robot Wars, which was every Nerd's dream. The Cultural fest was called Incident, and this was the more popular one. We had dance, drama, arts and fashion show. There were people from various colleges ready to walk the ramp on our college, which is no small feat. Apart from these two, there was the three day Intra-college fest called Crescendo which was awesome as well.

The fee for the first two semesters was 30,000. This got hiked for the next 3 semesters, as we had to pay for individual hostel rooms and for the Messes as well. Overall, we had to pay close to 40,000 per semester, which is around 80k per annum. There were loan options available to the less fortunate.

I did not opt for any loans, and neither was aware of what loans were offered. However, offered they were as many of my friends were opting for the same and this topic came around the fee payment time.

The gender ratio was quite less, about 20 girls in a class of 100 if I'm accurate. We had only one Girls hostel, whereas 9 Hostels for Guys. Plenty of opportunities in every field were available, like NCC, Cricket and Football team tryouts, debates. Labs were in plenty as well. The major projects in the Final year encouraged the students to participate in Robotics , Learn about new technologies like IOT and Machine Learning languages etc.

The hostel rooms were large enough for one person. I lived in a room shared with one person in the first year, after that i lived alone in the hostel rooms in the 2nd , 3rd and 4th year. The messes were serving okay enough food. Edible enough. Though we may not always like the food every single day. There were options , however, to the students like the Maggi Shack and GNPD Dhabha.

The seniors were extremely helpful, as well as the Alumni. We had elections for important posts and i must say everyone in my tenure did their jobs fantastically. They did face a lot of challenges in their individual roles as well, however they were always kind enough to lend a helping hand to the juniors , because of a sense of empathy.

The exam structure was pretty chilled out in the beginning, after which it did get hectic. We managed to cope , nonetheless, but this is something which happens in every college, not just mine. Overall , i would rate it as tangential towards hectic. The labs were quite dfficult sometimes, but since they were few, i'd take it in stride.

The course i initially got into was Chemical Engineering. After initial analysis, i got an idea that i may get Information Technology , and hence i applied to this college. After the first year (2 semesters), my branch, indeed, got changed to Information Technology.

The faculty was very well versed in their individual topics and some of them were on par with the best lecturers i have seen throughout my entire career , even now after 5 years have passed since i passed out. They are very well equipped , and use the necessary means to impart knowledge to students.
