Remarks

The overall process is similar to JOSA counselling. However, there must be an option to opt out during the counselling. Due to the lack of this option, many seats go vacant. The document verification process is also very smooth. Now it's expected to be even smoother as COVID is gone.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The course curriculum of Mechanical Engineering at Jadavpur University is unique. There is no common first-year programme that mechanical subjects are taught right from the first semester. However, the syllabus is just too long and irrelevant. Some subjects like Advanced algebra and advanced engineering mechanics are there which a student will need only if he/she opts for masters. There are just too many subjects in each semester. Faculties in the department are very experienced and professional. Exams are conducted on time. However, the results are not at all published timely. A major improvement is required. Students face serious problems in renewing their scholarships due to this sluggish examination system.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Very few core companies visit the campus for internships. Only Tata Metallics and ITC have visited the campus so far ( only mechanical department data). Other companies like Cairn, tata steel and Airbus also visit. There are a lot of non-core core companies for internships like PwC, Accenture, SRIB, and a lot of software startups. There are also many research internship opportunities. Many students go abroad in internships like Mitacs globalink.

Placement Experience

5

Students become eligible for placements from the 7th semester. Students become eligible for campus internships from the 5th semester. Not many core companies visit the campus for internships. Roughly 10 to 15 offers are made only. This year only Tata Metallics and ITC have visited so far for interns. There are many non-core companies for internships. The FTE opportunities are plenty. A lot of companies visit the campus every year. PSUs like GAIL, BPCL, and IOCL visit the campus. Core companies like ITC, Maruti Suzuki, Airbus, Bajaj, etc visit the campus. Consultancy companies like PwC, ZS associates, Protiviti, polestar, etc visit the campus. The highest package in the core sector in mechanical is 22LPA. The highest in non-core is beyond 40 LPA ( very rare though). The average package is between 8 to 10 LPA. The lowest is 4.5 LPA.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees at Jadavpur University are the Lowest in the country/world. No other college offers B.E/ B.Tech degree at only 10,000. There are various other scholarship programmes both from government and private organisations. The placements at Jadavpur University are one of the best in the region. The placements here are as good as the placements in Top NITs. The campus drive is coordinated by the student placement coordinator. Thus the entire system is very efficient and transparent.

Campus Life

4

The social life at Jadavpur is good. There are two annual fests: Sanskriti (cultural fest) and Srijan ( Tech Fest). There are many active clubs and societies. The mountaineering club is the oldest student-run mountaineering club in India. We have a budding motorsport club at the university as well. There are also other societies like Dance, Debate, Painting, Science, photography etc. The classrooms at Jadavpur University are very basic and are equipped with old-school benches, lights fans and projectors. Some departments have AC.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
