VNIT Nagpur - One of the best engineering colleges in central India, or is it?

I chose civil engineering because my family background is in civil. So naturally, I developed an interest in it. VNIT Nagpur has a decent faculty: student ratio of 1:20. All of the professors have done their Ph.D. and are adequately qualified to teach the students. They teach in a simple way that is understood by all. There was a total of 3 exams throughout the semester: 2 sessional and 1 end-semester exam. The papers were of moderate difficulty and one could score good marks if studied thoroughly.

Many companies offer internships to students at VNIT. In Civil engineering, internships are offered by companies such as NHAI and BIS. They offer a stipend of around 10-15k for 6 months.

Students in VNIT become eligible for campus placements from the 7th semester. Some of the companies that visit the campus are Fractal Solutions, Oracle, L&T, Honda, Mahindra, Tata steel, etc. In 2022, the highest package offered was 66 LPA and the average package is 11.5 LPA. The percentage of students getting placed during the 2022-23 season was 82.5%. I plan on doing MBA after completing my B.Tech.

The fee hike is not much compared to other colleges. It has been increasing only due to inflation. There are various scholarships provided to students from the college, state, and/or the central government. One such scholarship is the Minority Scholarship available to students from minority communities. Another scholarship is the Gol ICCR/SPDC Scholarship scheme.

The campus life at VNIT is great. The annual cultural fest is called Aarohi and is in November while the tech fest is called Axis and is held in April. The library is great and contains all the necessary books required for a particular course. The classrooms have amenities such as smartboards, two projector screens, and a mic system. There is a sports complex for indoor games. Also, there are sports grounds for games such as cricket, football, basketball, and volleyball. There are also clubs such as MAG, Ashlesha, E-cell, etc. for the students.

The hostel rooms are decent. They are large enough to accommodate 2 students. All the required facilities such as wardrobe, study table, LAN, and bed are present. The mess food is of average quality. The breakfast is good but some days the lunch and dinner are below average. The hostel fees need to be paid at the same time while paying the tuition fee. For fees of 40200 rupees per semester, the VNIT hostels are affordable.

I got admission to VNIT Nagpur through the JEE Main entrance exam. First and foremost, the application form needs to be filled which is available on the official NTA website. The application fees were 650 rupees per session at that time. The application form needed to be filled out at least one month before the exam. One improvement I wish to see is that there should be clarity of communication from NTA to the students regarding the dates of the exam as well the results. This will prevent panic among the students and ensure some stability in the admission process.
