IIEST shibpur - one of its kind

College Management system is very good as there is student senate which takes care of every decision whether it is in the favour of the betterment of students or not. All the activities are performed under the supervision of professor in charge of the following activities. Management is very strict in following the rules and regulations.

JEE (Mains) is the examination for getting admitted here. I gave JEE main in which I scored 133 marks . I choose this college because it is the second Oldest Engineering college in India. For me it was also not too far from my place. I am comfortable in local language of this place also. The college legacy adds many things to it. College NIRF ranking reflects a lot more about the Institute which is well placed over many IITs. Admission is done through Counseling which is jointly conducted for IITs NITs IIITs IIEST and other GIFTs.

Course structure is very fine which offers students time for their own way of studying. Since the college used to offer dual degree earlier which is changed from this year so course structure was designed which suits the research studies. There are research laboratory in each department. Faculties help the students to pursue Research Programme and help students get to foreign for PhD. The number of students pursuing M.tech from this college is quite High. Even college provides different research program here itself.

Yes, College help students get internships as last year students get internships in Google. This year many have been shortlisted by Goldmann. Students get internships at different places like They get internships at IITs and many different companies. Mining Engineering has maximum number of internships and placements from this college.

Placement scenario of this Institute is improving day by day as earlier college used to provide dual degree so it was a bit less and college was Regional college which turned into Institute of National Importance in 2014 so From this year onwards placement scenario will change as per now many have been placed. Last year 6 students get placed in Microsoft. So college is doing well. Hope it will be best in coming years. Average package is around 5 -7 lac. Mining Engineering of college has maximum placement offers in the college. Many for multiple offers. They are bagging highest packages , it is almost equal to ISM Dhanbad. College has also signed MOUs with Australia where Mining department will again get chances. So In the upcoming years college is going to have its best placement.

Rebecca is annual fest of the college which is one of the oldest fest of the country celebrated in the month of April. Instro is the techno management fest which is again largest in Kolkata which is held in October. There are many fests which are organised by individuals clubs of the Institute like quizmanic being, Euphony, Scage and many more. College hosts the student from different colleges including IITs , NITs and many other Engineering​ college across the country Even the College from Kolkata participate in the different fests.

After changing into IIEST there was hike in its fee to 70,000 per semester and Hostel fee is 1900 per semester. Mess fees varies as per the spending in the mess in the particular month which ranges from 2500-3500. It might be expensive for some people but feasible for others.

College is Institute of National Importance so government of India itself provides fee remission as per following : 1) 100% Remission of Tuition fee for Students belonging to SC ST category. 2) Two third of remission of fees for Students belonging to general and OBC category if their parents income lies between 1 lac to 5 lac. 3) Full remission in case the family income is less than 1 lac. Apart from that there is Alumni association which provides schlorships to students based on their CGPA and parents income. There are banks in the campus which provides loans to students also.

Campus is lush green with 2 large play ground Oval and Lords. Yes, Lords and Oval is there in our campus. Please Do visit. Gender Ratio is not quite good in undergraduate but it is okay in post graduate. About Diversity, This college hosts students from foreign as from south Africa Bangladesh and many more. There are students from each corner of India. There is 50 percent seat reservation for Bengal. Labs are well equipped with all the latest machine and equipment. There are many things unique in this campus. There are various competition apart from study whether it be tournament of Cricket, Table Tennis, Basketball or Football. There​ are different clubs for Robotics , Debates , quizzes , Dance , music , photography ,coding, film and many more which allows you to give your hobbies a new direction.

Hostels are not new in case of boys. They are old so in the first and​ second year Each room is allotted to four students which appears a little weird. There are TVs , Projector in the Hostels. Canteen is also there for tea and a little bit of snacks because snacks are not offered by mess in the evening. There is Table Tennis and carrom facilities in the hostel. Hostels have WiFi which allows you to download things at very faster rate. Mess Routine is made by students itself. So students are involved in the mess. It is good for Non vegetarian but not that good for vegetarians. Fees depend on How much has been spent in that month. Hostel Fees is very less so no need to worry about that. There is accommodation for everyone but student may choose to remain outside the campus.

As the college is second Oldest Engineering college in India. It is quite obvious that it has largest alumni base. There are alumni of the Institute in different disciplines and sectors. Director of IIT Guwahati is the alumni of this Institute. There are many professor in this Institute itself who are the alumni. Senior are helpful, They help if someone interacts.

Apart from mid sem and end sem Examination there is class test which is taken in the class which will be known to you earlier. As of all Engineering colleges here also you will have to submit assignment Lab report on time to get marks. One should not miss lab classes they are very important. Overall 4 labs including Engineering Drawings ( for some department) makes it a little bit hectic a night before submission date. Overall it is okay.

Admission process starts in the mid June after the Result of JEE advanced are out. Admission is completely basad on your rank, category you belong and state of eligibility. State of Eligibility is required because 50% of the seats are reserved for Bengal. Counselling is the process of getting admitted to any such type of college so filling of the choices and branch is a very important task.

Most of the faculty of the college are PhD. They are very helpful and supportive. Many of the faculty are the alumni of this Institute itself. Every year a large number of papers are published by the professors​. Mostly They take classes of those things in which they had PhD. So they help students think like are a researcher.
