Dislikes
- The college infrastructure - more specifically the labs, could be better.
- The Course in general is pretty theoretical and it doesn't have a lot of practical applications to it.
- The campus life becomes kind of hectic because we have classes from 8:30-4:30 on some days
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because it would later on help me to get into a STEM field. The applications of mathematics are endless which is what made me choose this course. In our department we have about 10 faculty members, all extremely qualified and teach their subjects very well. The term exams are held by DU, and the last semester was a little difficult than we had expected it to be.
Internships Opportunities
I got my first internship through the Placement Cell of our college. It was at a fintech startup and it was a paid internship. I got the role of a growth hacker intern and worked on increasing growth of the products of said startup.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placement in their 3rd year. The Central Placement Cell of our college is pretty active and we have had companies like Bain, Deloitte, PwC, Make My Trip, Boston Consulting Group etc. come to campus for placements. My plans after the degree would be to get some experience and then go for a master's.
Fees and Financial Aid
Delhi University's fees in general is pretty affordable as compared to other colleges in India. In JMC, the fees for the first year for BSc(Hons) Mathematics was Rs16,000 and for second year it was around Rs 19,000. The majority of the cost goes into travelling to college. I didn't avail any scholarships since I didn't need them
Campus Life
JMC usually has a fest every other day, which is either conducted by a society or a department. They're pretty fun to attend and a variety of stalls are displayed ranging from food, jewellery, clothes, notebooks etc. The library of our college has a huge range of books for all subjects being taught in the college, and it is a pretty good place to study. There are tons of student clubs in our college for one to join and help a lot in personality development - some of them are Enactus, 180 Degrees Consulting, TEDx, fine arts society, dance society and so on.
Admission
For my course specifically, the cut-offs in JMC were 95.5 in the first list and hence I was able to enroll. The application form was available on the college website, and the application dates were the same as DU.
