Remarks

College management is sloppy when mass is involved. Test delay happen quiet often and they should probably learn from them Otherwise college is awesome and has a good environment to live and prosper.

Entrance Preview

I took SRMJEE which is the entrance examination conducted online in many cities throughout the nation. Marks were not told. Only ranks were uploaded on the website and accordingly students were called for counseling. I wasn't able to clear JEE mains, I cleared many private college examinations like BITS and KIIT but wasn't getting the desired branch so I preferred SRM.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The 1st-year course is a little off track. It is common for every branch. I don't see the relevance of teaching mechanical engineering to an IT guy. 2nd course is good and dense. It is fun and challenging at same time. Overall it is good and full of knowledge. The research topic is more for biotech students and less for Computer Science. Still, new topics like big data analysis and IOT are being promoted for research. Also semester abroad programs are run for interested students.

Internships Opportunities

Not really. Internships are provided on payment basis. If you are ready to pay a huge amount then they give internship from their side otherwise you have to apply on your own. If you are super intelligent and a 9 pointer or so then they might consider giving a free internship(rare case) so that it publicizes the college.

Placement Experience

3.5

Placements vary and patterns are hard to predict. Sometimes they go for mass recruitment and takes thousands of students. Earlier mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, CTS etc used to select IT people only but now they are interested in biotech and other fields also. Recently 20 people were recruited by Amazon(came twice).

College Events

4

SRM's specialty is events celebrated here. From Onam to Lodhi everything is celebrated with zest. For tech related it has yearly fest call Aaruush which has many workshops for learning, pro shows for enjoyment and mind-boggling games and other domains to teach about new things. Other than that it also has many expos going. Apart from this SRM has a yearly cultural fest called MILAN which is pure dance, Music, Drama, and fun. People from outside also participate to showcase their talent. Approx 7000 people participate in both events respectively.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure a little expensive but is bearable. The only flaw is selecting the mess food. If you want to live in a hostel you have to eat and pay for mess food. This mess food should be made optional as mess food is unhygienic and cancerous, an even menu is never changed but students are forced to eat this shitty mess food.

Fees and Financial Aid

No idea about any loans offered but college does offer to pay in parts like in my case my father has paid 50000 in one payment and rest on other.

Campus Life

4

Gender ration is fair enough. Mechanical branch is short on girls. IT departments have almost same boy and girl ratio. All other branches are almost the same. No parties are done. Parties inside hostel are prohibited legally. Students are highly diversified and come from all parts of India and aren't restricted to a particular state. Extracurricular activities like sports tournaments, Workshops, MUNs happen quite often. This is one of the best points of SRM.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostel facilities are okayish. AC rooms are way overpriced and are given on first come first serve basis. Almost 100k more has to be given for a AC room. AC should be placed in every room and should be charged according to electricity usage. Hostel comes in Normal and international categories. 1st year have to live in 3 or 4 sharing whereas 2nd year onward they have to live in 3 sharing rooms. Mess food is awfully bad and no one wants to eat. But since the hostel is opting mess food payment is compulsory.(not at all happy)

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors are less like seniors and more like friends. Unlike pre imagination of coming to college that seniors will always be pestering, they are always helpful and more teacher like. I adore my seniors and hope everyone gets seniors like them.

Exam Structure

CTs(internal) become hectic as after the subjects period, normal classes resume. It leaves students tired and leads to bunking regular classes to study for next. Model and University papers are all chill as we get whole day and holidays to study and revise. Labs sometime get hectic when work is pending otherwise it is cool.

Admission

I used to check their site every day for form filling date. It starts on December end and goes on till February mid. Once the form is filled payment is done online and a receipt is generated with username and ID which is later used to generate the hall ticket for examination. After the exams are held rank is checked on SRM website and accordingly, students are called for counseling. When the date is given the rank slots are divided into sub slots and students are called to select the branch, give perosonal information, pay a certain amount to ensure the admission etc.

Faculty

Qualification wise teachers are really good and experienced but sometimes I feel that they fail to express or convey what they want to. Labs are quite good and always help when needed. Problems for practicing are given quite often. They are very strict regarding attendance(minimum 75%) and are always tough on invigilation during exams.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.

Placement Experience:

1.) Placement begins from the pre-final year and we are allowed to apply for companies from the final year. 2.) Around 70% of the class gets placed in reputed companies with an average CTC of 4-8 LPA. 3.) Along with core biotech companies, many IT companies are also hiring students at a very decent package. 4.) I plan to pursue a master's after this course.
