Remarks
My college is the best in the areas most colleges are not. And it keeps on improving the infrastructure and administrative qualities that it lacks for the betterment of the future generations. It is an embodiment of India with the student from different ethnicity, religions and backgrounds come together to share their values, culture and most importantly to become part of the greater workforce that will make the future a better place.
Entrance Preview
There was no entrance exam what so ever, but still there were 120 seats for almost 1300 students who applied. But I made it at no.78.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum structure is fine, but it has room for improvement. The books should at least contain examples and programs based on the currently used operating system. But for some reason, the book publishers are just not getting past ahead of windows xp.
Internships Opportunities
No, our college does not provide internship for students. Sadly that's something that our college still doesn't support even though many others institutions do.
Placement Experience
Placement at PGGC is really good. For example, just last year companies like Infosys and Wipro came to our campus for placements and 37 students were placed with the maximum package of 9.6 Lakhs p.a. to a student. All of this is possible because of our great faculty and supportive administration.
College Events
Our College hosted "PU Youth & Heritage Festival" for 2016 & 2017 which included an array of events like drama, histrionics, creative writing, classical/folk/group dances, embroidery, crochet work etc. This event lasts for 2 days with different colleges from Chandigarh compete over various fields. Our college also hosted "PU Jobfest 2017" which included programmes related to spreading awareness over various jobs, sharpening the skills of the students related to their fields, organizing competition related to activities like icon designing, debates over topics and speed questions rounds etc. with winners getting rewards for their wins.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is based on a semester system with each installment being realised before the start of the new semester. Like in BCA, the 1st-semester fee is the highest with Rs.20576 with installments decreasing after that, for example - 19576 for II, 19196 for III, 18450 for IV and finally 18250 for V and VI. Compared to other colleges semester-wise, the fee structure is somewhat fine if not a little better.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have not availed any scholarship but I know for a fact that my college offers a scholarship for SC/ST, minority and Backward Class students that have performed well in academics in the past and to the specially abled students that want to pursue further studies. The scholarships range from Rs.3000 to Rs.5000 p.a per subject with 30% of all the scholarships earmarked for girls.
Campus Life
First and foremost, My college campus has the divrsity of a mini India. I mean, I have literally seen students from every part of my country include a Paars i and two Buddhists. Gender ratio is pretty stable here with students coming from all types of backgrounds and religion meet to form an extraordinary society. We organise freshers party for new ones and farewell parties for our seniors. We have a healthy level of political debates over students demands and requirements for the betterment of accommodations level in the college. When I enter my college, I don't feel the constraints of our conservative society, I don't feel the dividing politics, instead I feel the caring and nurturing environment of my friends that accept me for who I am and what I am.
Hostel Facilities
I don't know the about the hostels that much as I have never visited them once, but according to my friends the hostel accommodations are manageable if not good. The day to day requirement supplies like water, electricity etc are good enough. As for the mess food, that is one area where our college can do better, not in terms of food (the food is fine), but the sitting area. The sitting area needs to be increased to accommodate ever growing demand. The mess building needs a complete do-over too.
Alumni/Alumna
The seniors have been really helpful about easing our minds to the college environment. Also, I had a great freshers party last year organised by the seniors for us. We had lots of silly fun with lipsync battles, ramp walks and even boys & girls dance-off. As for the help with study, I have got great teachers in our seniors who have been there for me like my friends.
Exam Structure
Exams structure is pretty good with semester system being followed. there is the mid-term exam in March and September with final exams in late May and early December every year. The 4 exams and 2 practicals are spread in a course of at least 14 days. the examination timings are 9:30 am at the earliest and 1:30 pm at the last one. So it's pretty easy for us actually.
Admission
How I got the admission. well, on the day of the admission, there was a heavy downpour in Chandigarh. I think it was 14th of July 2016, I remember because all my friends were calling me for every minute detail about the admission process a week before the day, like I would know any better than them. There was so much excitement that I couldn't sleep properly for a week before the admission. The pressure build-up was at its peak on the night of 13th. I checked all the documents and forms twice and tried to catch some sleep. I left for the admissions at 8:30 am on my active, but as soon as I left home, the weather went bad. It was raining heavily and all my clothes got wet. Normally in this situation, I should have returned home, but I didn't. Instead, I went to my dad's office to change my clothes. My dad's works at Chandigarh Police headquarters where he had his very own room for keeping formal dresses and uniforms among other stuff. My dad and I are of identical height and weight, that's why I had to wore his t-shirt and trousers to the admissions. Since it was still raining, I took my dad's car to the venue. All my friends that were there were the victims of the bad weather that day except me. We all waited in line for our turns for several hours, but we got admitted into courses of our choices. We all celebrated at Pizzahut even though we all were very exhausted. That night, I had the best sleep I had in weeks.
Faculty
The college faculty is really outstanding as opposed to the usual consensus, as they really take interest in teaching us about the computer languages. There's one by the name Chetan Sir who usually teaches a topic by giving us real-life based similar situations which eases the understanding of the subject.
