Remarks

All in all Jamia was a very good experience for me. Over the 2 years learned a lot about the muslim culture and food. Would highly recommend anyone who is thinking of joining Jamia Millia Islamia.

Entrance Preview

Admission to JMI is through the offline test conducted by the JMI itself. I did my B.sc(h) Physics from DU, so Physics for Post Graduation was no brainer.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Course structure is good. There are 3 main branches namely Laser Physics, Theoretical Physics, and Material Physics of which you have to choose one in 3rd semester based on what you want to do for your research. I choose Laser Physics. In 3rd sem you have to pick a project and supervisor and finish the project by end of 4th sem which is evaluated by a team of Professors.

Internships Opportunities

JMI Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship does provide with internship of what i know of. Application date is as usual may and selection end is june. Stipend is 5000/- along with a certificate of completion. Departmental internships are also provided by Centre of Theoretical Physics (CTP).

Placement Experience

4

Placements are provided through University Placement cell. All the interested students need to fill up the form provided by the Placement cell. Placements. Various companies come and this year highest pack was 16LPA as far as i can remember for B.tech CS. As for M.sc Physics no one went for college placements as most of the students want to do research work.

College Events

4

JMI celebration its Annual fest Talimi Mela in October-November. All types of cultural performances are carried out over 3 days. Myself being in Music club of our college we had to give our names for performances 40 days in advance and auditions were held for the performances. Nice were were selected and rehearsal used to be carried out everyday starting 20 days prior. Apart from the Fest, there are departmental fests which every department conducts. Also there is inter-university competition known as MIRAS held in February.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Free structure waa very feasible for average student in each and every department. The fee was around 16000/- over 2 years for the course. Examination fess are to be paid while filling the examination form and are around 400-600 on average. As far as hostel goes fee was around 4000 per month which is feasible for vast no of students.

Fees and Financial Aid

Various scholarships are provided to the deserving students. Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam scholarship, M.F.H Beg scholarship, JTA scholarship are some of the main scholarships given to the students.

Campus Life

4.5

The campus life was great. The people in general were friendly. As far as the sex ratio goes there could me more girls than boys in the college campus. University has its own stadium and with Various indoor and outdoor game playing fields and surfaces. There is a GYM. The students from all over india can be seen as i had students from Kolkata , J&K, assam in my class. The campus is open till midnight so there was always so much to do in the campus. The college did not have political groups so there were no elections. As far as religion diversity goes, being a Muslim college there are 50% seats reserved for muslims but other than that you dont feel you are in some different place. The people and vatious culture was the best thing about Jamia

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel facility is available and students need to apply to avail it. The fee is per semester and is around 4000 per head including the mess food. Coming on to the food. The food was average. Both veg and non veg students were taken care of. The food in the various canteens of the college was good.

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students were very frendly from day 1. Helped us a lot in getting to know the college and life. Gave us a very good fresher's welcome party. I became good friends with few of the seniors and it didn't feel as if we were there jounirs as we use to hang out together.

Exam Structure

We hed 2 sessional exams plus end Sem main exams in a semester apart from 2 lab exams. We had 12 hours of lab per week and Saturday Sunday was off. We had 3 hours of lab 4 times a week. 2 days in morning and 2 days in afternoon. So the afternoon's were hectic. Apart from that it was average, not too hectic.

Admission

Forms for the admission are released in april-may and exam is conducted in starting of june. I got rank 34 in the exam conducted in general category and got name in 2nd admission list. 3 day window is given to complete admission formalities and process was mostly smooth. Administrative staff is supportive and people are frendly.

Faculty

4.5

Faculty of our department was very good. Almost all of them were P.hd holders. All the teachers had qood knowledge of their subjects. Our department had its own building so infrastructure was not a problem. All in all learning from them was a good experience.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My course is MSC operations research, which is a very vast and deep course. It goes deep into understanding business operations and providing the businesses with best quality steps. There were real life projects which have helped me alot in understanding difficult topics. If there could be more projects it would have been more helpful for studies. The exams level is moderate to difficult, have to study hard to perform good in tests/exams.
