Remarks

The curriculum is perfectly balanced with the extracurricular activities. The college management is very poor and biased towards boys.

Entrance Preview

I appeared for JEE Mains and Advanced, BITSAT and VITEEE. I got a rank of 10502 in JEE Mains. I wanted to do B.Tech in CSE and my seniors suggested that placement in CSE of BIT Mesra was quite good. Being a reputed college and near my hometown, I went for this college.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is quite "old". It is adequate to cover the core principles of your course. But I feel that newer topics and technologies should be covered as well. You will have to put in extra efforts if you want to go for research. You also get ample time to hone your coding skills and take part in extra-curricular activities.

Internships Opportunities

Yes. Various reputed companies come for internship and also provide PPO. Some companies that came when I was in 3rd year of my engineering were Microsoft (~35k), Flipkart (50k), Amazon, Goldman Sachs, etc. These companies offered stipend of around 35k per month.

Placement Experience

4

Various companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Microsoft (18 lpa), Directi (28 lpa), Wipro, IBM (3.2 lpa), Cognizant (3.2 lpa), Tata Steel, Hindalco, Kronos (9 lpa), Infoedge ( 7.5 lpa), Fastenal (8.5 lpa), MakeMyTrip(11 lpa), Walmart (18 lpa), Freescale, Qualcomm (14.5 lpa), Goldman Sachs, United health Group(12 lpa), Vodafone came to our campus for placement. I don't remember the exact figures. These numbers are just approximate values of the compensation offered by these companies.

College Events

4.5

Various activities are organised by different clubs quite frequently. The major events are Pantheon and Bitotsav. Bitotsav is inter-college fest. We have 3-5 night events in which various celebrities and bands come. It is accompanied with day events.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I think the fee structure is on the expensive side. The entire course was around 8 lakhs at my time ( excluding food). Every semester the mess fees ranged from 12k to 15k for girls and 15k - 18k for boys. The fee was inclusive of tuition fees, exam fees, and lab fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college offers scholarship based on your CGPA. Those who score 9 and above get 50% off in their tuition fees while those who score between 8 to 9 get 25% off in their tuition fees. Students whose either parents are faculty member of the college get some discount in their tuition fees.

Campus Life

4

Every year each hostel has a "hostel night" in which delicious food is served along with DJ. Students also give dance and song performances. The extracurricular is very nice. You'll get clubs according to your passion. Every year we have annual sports meet which is of inter-college level. We have various technical clubs like ACM (for CSE), IEEE, Robolution etc.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There were single rooms for boys and twin-sharing rooms for girls. The rooms provided to first year girls was very small. It was enough for a single girl but two girls had to share the room. Taking hostel accommodation is mandatory. There are just 2 hostels for girls and around 10 hostels for boys! The food quality was very bad in some boys hostel but was "ok" in girls hostel.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is quite good. We have "Bitosa" which is basically a club through which alumni connect with each other. Yes, the alumni are quite helpful.

Exam Structure

We have a mid-semester exam and end-semester exam each semester. Mid-semester exams are of 25 marks. 15 marks for internals and 60 marks for end-semester. 1st year was quite hectic but no of subjects per semester reduce every year. We have common subjects in the first year.

Admission

The JEE Mains process for choosing college was quite simple. Firstly, I had to fill up the colleges that I wanted according to priority. I got BIT Mesra according to seat availability. Then I had to get my certificates verified at the nearest centre (NIT). Finally, I went to college to get the certificates verified and paid the fees.

Faculty

3.5

Most of the faculty teach the course seriously. Some professors teach exceptionally well. In CSE department, I think all the teachers were good and completed the syllabus. They were also helpful in case of doubts. The professors were not too strict with us.

From 7th sem onwards students are able to face placements. Comapnies such as ZS, Deloite AB in bev microsoft visa comes here and normally takes 1-3 students. The highest package may vary from 40-50 lakhs and average is 4-5 lakhs. Internships opportunities are quite low here. In chemical enginnering only till now out of 120 students 20-30 got placed including out of campus palcements. I am hoping to do mba after pursuing the degree as there is less comapny visit for core branches.
