Remarks

The college management was generally helpful in terms of demands made by students. There isn't anything negative I have to say about the college management in general. Except the fact that we must get better teachers to teach us because they are the biggest source of information and if they are not qualified we cannot be empowered.

Entrance Preview

I always wanted to be a civil engineer. I scored 141/200 in my MH-CET. I applied through Common Admission Process (CAP Rounds) and got my admission as I had scored well as compared to other applicants.

Course Curriculum Overview

2

The courses that were offered were basic engineering courses needed for civil engineering. All of them were important since we could choose from there a direction in further studies, be it transport engineering or geotechnical engineering or structural engineering. The electives were offered in final year between Solid Waste Management or Construction Management or Structural Engineering. There was limited opportunity for research since the topics are quite exhaustive and the time taken to understand is a lot more just to grasp basic concepts. Moreover to finalize research topics is very difficult and hence there is little scope for the same.

Internships Opportunities

The college as far as I am aware does not provide any internship opportunity. In my entire class of 100 students, I do not know anyone who had an internship from college.

Placement Experience

2

Due to the market being highly poor, there were barely any companies that had come to recruit students at the end of our fourth year. The companies that did come required a minimum 60% aggregate score and hence only 10-12 students could participate. Mann Infrastructure was one of the companies recruiting. Their pay package was approximately 4Lakh per annum.

College Events

3

We had a college festival every year. Unfortunately I never took part in any college festival. Our college also did go to other colleges to perform in band events, model hunts and dance competitions. Along with this, we also had an Intra-college festival, where the engineering, arts, law, etc would face off against each other.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is 49,500/- per year. For an engineering college for us to do our education in less than 2L rupees over the course of the entire four years is decent. For students from lower economic background is quite difficult. But engineering in any case is quite expensive. We didn't have too many more expenses apart from this.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am unaware of any scholarships or loan offered by the college. If there were any scholarships, i would not know because i did not try to avail them.

Campus Life

3

The gender ratio was very poor. 10 girls in a class of 100 students. Completely male dominated, and with a lot of people from different strata of the society. There was an active student body which spoke about the college timings and there was also a gym in the college itself.

Hostel Facilities

2

I did not attent the hostel or eat mess food. There is nothing I can say for this that could be of any use. The canteen food is very good though. I knew of only one boy who lived in the hostel at college. Do not know any more about the same. The accommodation should be decently fine.

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students barely had any contact with the juniors. Similarly when I was a senior I did not speak to any junior students. There was not a lot of bonding between years. As an alumni network, I do not have any contact with anyone but my friends from college.

Exam Structure

Exams were twice a year. Once every semester. We had 6 subjects and most subjects had a viva/practical or both. That made it 12 written exams a year. Which is 48 written exams in the entire course. And an additional 30 vivas/practicals minimum which made 80 exams in the course of 4 years. Not to mention the entire assignments that were to be done every week. High hectic.

Admission

I had to go to Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering to pick up my admission form. I was entering through CAP rounds. The process was straight forward. I choose the college I would like to apply to and rank them in order of 1,2,3... If I get in my 1st choice college I go there and immediately am out of the admission process. If not, I get to choose my 2nd option. So on and so forth. If I do not get admission in any college, i can move forward in the CAP round.

Faculty

1

The faculty of the college is in shambles. This is a lot more to do with the general career path of teaching since there aren't many qualified and experienced teachers coming to teach courses in the college. The structural engineering professor was 65 years old and could not control a class. He knew a lot but could not communicate efficiently.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I have genuine interest in civil engineering. The faculty student ration is 1:50. Our faculties are well qualified they are master's degree holders in design and structural engineering. Some of them are PhD holders and many of them have done their master's from NIT and IIT. Term exams are scheduled after every 2 months. it is easy to pass because it consists of 30 marks only.
