Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose this course since the field of physics was a growing field with a lot of scope in the future and I also had a lot of interest in the subject. The faculty were extremely qualified with all of them being PhD holders. The faculty: student ratio was 1:45 since we were all in the same class. The best part of the course was the practical lessons that we had. The pedagogy involved notes, presentations, projects and experiments. The semester exams had a fixed timeline and were always taken according to the mentioned schedule. They included both theoretical and practical examinations. I would say that the difficulty level of these exams was moderate to difficult. If one had focused on the lectures and done some self-study then it would be possible for them to pass. Last-minute study really did not work here.

Fees and Financial Aid

During my tenure at the college, there was no fee hike that happened. The fee was paid semester-wise and was typically around 19000/- including the examination and practical fees. For the 1st and 4th semester, there were some annual charges also involved that increased the fee of those particular semesters. Plenty of scholarships were available for students that scored at the top during the examinations.

Campus Life

5

Nexus is the annual cultural fest of Venkateshwara College which is generally held during the months of February or March. It is also one of the biggest and most awaited fests in the entire South Campus of Delhi University. It is conducted over 3 days, where multiple fun activities take place during the day and the nights are covered by proclaimed artists. The library at Venky is well stocked and one can find a plethora of books and journals covering a wide range of disciplines and interests. Classrooms are well-lit, spacious and equipped with blackboards, whiteboards and projectors. Sports and extracurricular activities are highly sought after, with multiple students participating in club activities. Both academic clubs like Principia - the Physics Society and non-academic clubs like dance, theatre, nukkad natak exists to cater to the interests of the diversity of students.

Admission

When I took admitted to Delhi University, there was no entrance exam. Admission was done on the basis of 12th Class percentage. Since I had opted for BSc Physics honours, the eligibility expected me to have studied the subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Maths in my 12th standard. The 1st and 2nd cutoff lists were at 99% and 97%. However, the 3rd cutoff was at 96% and I would get a few points for being a female applicant. Hence, I was able to take admission with 95.2% marks. After finding this out, I had to visit the college within a week of the cutoff being released. The application form was available on the college website. I went to the College administration office and showed them original documents like adhar card, 12th and 10th mark sheet, passport-sized photos, and application form. Since I had already paid the fees at ANDC, DU has a centralised system and they were able to internally transfer the fee to Venkateshwara College. Hence, there was no such hassle involved.

Other Applied Colleges

Acharya Narendra Dev College - [ANDC] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Physics)

I found out from friends and family that Venkateshwara was a better college for BSc courses.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum consists of relatable topics and interesting ones as well this is what quite influenced me to take this course. We have labs which help us learn how to prepare various organic compounds which are used in many day to day products . The course also has a 4th year research program. There should be more equipments in lab for the research. The frequency is good for exams being conducted and there level is also quite good

Placement Experience:

The students become eligible for the placements provided by the college in their 3rd year, while they can pursue internship offered by the college in previous years. Average sized companies visited the campus with lots of students being placed for jobs. The highest package I am not aware of but lowest was of around 300000 pa. I plan to pursue masters after my graduation degree.

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester. I don't know a lot about campus placements but I know that there is a training and placement cell in our college that provides good packages to many students. Some students got more than 7lpa last year. I will be doing my Post graduation after college and will make a career in academics.
