Remarks
College is really good and I'm happy I'm going to complete my UG in this college. The only thing that upsets me is the fee structure and classification where a open category student has to pay 84,000 and ST category student has to pay 525.
Entrance Preview
The course I choose is BE Biotechnology. Since there is a huge demand in the wide field of Biotechnology and to promote this field of study KIT's COEK didn't have donation for the management quota students (including me).
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is good. First Year is common for all branches, so I didn't have to study anything specific to Biotechnology. Second Year onward the syllabus is focused on general biotech and it's sub branches. The course is structured in such a way that the wide field of biotech is covered in an efficient way.
Internships Opportunities
Since the intake is less and the horizon of interests is wide, there are very few students having interest in the same field. This is the reason there is no on-campus internship. However, off-campus internships are very good. The college had very good connections with industries and other institutes.
Placement Experience
Brilliant. Students from the department are placed in the companies like Biocon, DD Enterprises, Reliance Life Sciences. Students are pursuing their Masters or PhD from institutes like ICT, BITS, SRM, University of Ireland, John Hopkins University, etc.
College Events
Most of the events are organised in the second half of the year. Two grand events viz. Meraki(cultural event) and Pioneer (technical event) are organised in the month of January and they receive wonderful response from the students from different parts of the state.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is feasible. Fee structure is classified according to castes. Open-Rs.84,000 OBC-Rs.40,000 SC-Rs.10,000 ST-Rs.525 The given figures are approx. Hostel fee (boys) - Rs.15,300 (Excluding mess fee) This is the annual fee structure. The amount varies every year.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarships are provided to the students whose financial condition is not too good. As far as I know there is a scholarship for students with annual income less than 6 lakhs. Fees for SC and ST candidates are very less and affordable. Maybe there are few more types of scholarships but I don't know about them.
Campus Life
Campus life is very good. There are a lot of things to experience throughout the year. I'll like to enlist some mass events. KITMUN, Pioneer, Meraki, Annual sports, etc. Each department conducts some social activity, technical events, etc throughout the year. Students also participate in the zonals, inter zonals, district, state and national level sports.
Hostel Facilities
This information will be regarding Boys Hostel Annual fee - Rs.15,300 Hostel can accommodate 300 boys, 4 in each room. There are 3 floors. Each floor has 3 wings. 9-10 rooms in each wing. Each wing is provided with washroom, consisting urinals and toilets at one side and basin and bathrooms at the other side.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is very good. Almost all the alumni are in contact with our faculty. There is an alumni interaction in the department almost every week. Alumni are very helpful. They share their experience in the college and industry. Also tell us about their preparations, training, internships, etc.
Exam Structure
Semester pattern. Exams are organised by Shivaji University and conducted in our college only. Exam schedule is good, there is ample amount of time for preparation of each subject, theory as well as practicals. The exam structure is convenient for the students.
Admission
My MH-CET marks were not good. I discovered that my department had 12 seats reserved for management quota. And the fees for management quota was the same as regular fees. Faculty of the department was there with me throughout the admission process and it was very helpful.
Faculty
Faculty of Biotech Department is very good. They have tremendous knowledge about their subject and try their best to deliver to us in the best way. Teachers have graduated from either BE Biotech or any related field like Chemical Engineering. Some of them have completed their PhD while few are pursuing it now.
