Course Curriculum Overview
The Course curriculum of both B.com (P) and B.COM (H) covers all major subjects related to the fields of business commerce and general management. Finance, Accounting, corporate laws, marketing, etc. The Hons course also offers a general elective to the student for 2 years and a specialization in the final semester (Finance/accounting). The strength of the Prog course is 100-120 with one section, however, no overpopulation is felt in class due to the availability of large classrooms. Most of the faculty members are PhD holders from recognized govt universities with good experience, however, students might find a difference in understanding and comfort level with all teachers due to the lack of one on one interaction and tight schedules of teachers, with extra effort, this problem can be solved. The University conducts centralized exams which carry 75% weightage in the final result rest 20% of the marks are sent by the respective teachers based on continuous evaluation. (Exams are moderate)
Internships Opportunities
The internships offered are wide-ranging from equity analyst to teaching. Most of the internships are unpaid however the avg stipend for paid is around 5-7000/per month The internships can be on-field and off-field related to the company and the profile so offered. On-ground internships include teaching, event management, etc. off-field internships include HR assistant, equity analyst, etc.
Placement Experience
The College has a dedicated placement cell called IGNITE, the campus is visited by all major recruiters including BIG 4, RSA, Bain and Company, BYJUS, DE Shaw etc. The range of packages offered is from 3.5 Lakhs to 8-12 Lakhs depending on company and profile the average package rotating around 4-5 Lakhs/yr. The Highest package is offered for the actuary or analyst role and the lowest is in audit by KPMG and EY. The placement ratio for commerce and economics courses is relatively better than other courses placing nearly 80-90% of all candidates. However, the placement cell can work better to assist more students and smooth the process. I was offered a 6+lakh package by one of the BIg 4s in the audit industry, which however I could not accept due to further education plans. The course equips one with basic accounting and commercial knowledge which can lend entry-level jobs at accounting, marketing, or sales firms according to appropriate skills
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees as compared to other DU colleges are relatively on the higher side ranging nearly 28000 per year. There are scholarships available for financially weaker sections which can be availed by submitting an application along with necessary documents to the college admin. The students can also apply for scholarships at the university level which can be taken through the assistance of college admin.
Campus Life
The college is full of rich Punjabi culture the annual fest Lashkara happens every year in the months of Feb or March, the college is also home to clubs of different kinds (Finance, commerce, Trading, consulting, art, photography, Dance, music and every other primary activity) most of these clubs are moderately active for most of the years and also have a primary annual event for each of them specially. Most of the clubs are entirely student-run and are given full autonomy in functioning. The college also has one of the largest grounds of the university with a moderately equipped Gym. tennis courts and basketball courts are highly active in sports events. The college has a central area called Jannat which is a frequent home to activities and exhibitions, the college also houses a Nescafe hut and a huge canteen. Guest lectures and ceremonies are also commonly happening in the college auditorium The College also accounts for a gurudwara which is open to all and home to spirituality.
Admission
Earlier there were Percentage based cutoffs for every constituent college of the University of Delhi (Avg percentage required for SGTB being 95.5+%). However, from the Academic year 2022, the university adopted admission criteria as per the CUET exam conducted by the UGC. The exams involve sections containing General Knowledge and Aptitude, 2 languages (including English), and a selective section relevant to the course of choice of the student during the application process. Admissions are then offered on the basis of candidate percentiles to the appropriate colleges. The examination syllabus is in sync with the primary boards (CBSE, ICSE etc.) syllabus of classes 11th and 12th. However, a more managed and refined way of conducting the exam is yet to be seen. A little hassle in centre allocation and date sheet mismatches was observed initially. However, it is expected that with time this process shall get more convenient.
