Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Coming to course curriculum, it is very good and rigorous. My main reason behind choosing this branch was its diverse application and interdependence (They call it the mother of all branches), also there is a huge demand for Material Scientists in foreign countries. We have a very good faculty-to-student ratio and also a small batch size of only 27 (after 1st sem, we are 22, since 5 students changed their branch). Most of the faculty are Ph.D. holders from reputed foreign universities and also have ample research experience. The term exams were slightly early for us, as they want to synch our course with other years as we joined late due to Covid. But they were not very difficult to pass and grading is also relative.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Although our college offers internship opportunities on campus, not everyone can secure an on-campus internship. But most of the students find internships off campus through LinkedIn or other websites. Also, many students do an internship in govt facilities like DRDO, and ISRO, universities in India like IISC, and IISER, and even in foreign universities.

Placement Experience

3.5

Placements are top-notch in our college. Students from the pen-ultimate semester are eligible for campus placements. Our college is known for its placements. Last year's highest international package was 2.05 Cr. Also, a variety of companies visit our campus like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Accenture-Japan, Tata, etc. The average package for overall college is close to 23 LPA and for the Material Science branch, it is around 19.6 LPA. Companies offered various profiles like SDE, Analyst, Consultant, Core, etc. Almost 100 Percent of students get placed. I plan to either go for a Ph.D. in Material Science or an MBA.

Fees and Financial Aid

The cost of study at IIT BHU depends on your family income and caste. There is no fee hike policy and the cost is not that high as compared to other private colleges. Also, our institute provides financial assistance to poor students, like students whose family income is less than 1 lakh gets a full tuition fee waiver and so on for between 1-5 lakh. Also, there are various scholarships and education loan facilities available on campus by SBI. It is difficult for you to find on-campus jobs but you can try for off-campus and online internships and freelancing.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life is very good here. We have around 4 fests conducted throughout the year. Firstly we have Kashiyatra, our cultural fest, usually conducted in January. Then Technex, our Technical fest, was conducted in March. Spardha, a sports fest, is conducted in September-October. And finally, E-Summit, an Entrepreneurship fest, was also conducted in January. The classrooms are also quite modern and equipped with all modern amenities, like projectors, soundproof walls, charging sockets under every table, etc. Also, ACs are present in department classrooms. The library is also quite big and contains books of all types ranging from core subject books to newspapers to storybooks to whatnot. You will find everything there. The sports and extracurricular activities are also fabulous here, there are various clubs and facilities for whatever sports you can think of. We also have WhatsApp groups for every club and there are workshops regularly conducted for us.

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostels provided to us, are not the best but kind of okay. In 1st year we have 3 students per room and they may be from different branches. We are given 3 beds, 2 cabinets, 2 tables, and 2 chairs, along with a fan. The quality of mess food is also good but after some time you will be bored with the food. The food is served to us and we do not have to stand in line for food. We are given 3 meals, i.e., Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. The registration process was done firstly online before coming to the campus and also offline after reaching the hostel also. Most of the people have been living in the hostel only and I don't know anyone who has rented a room or PG.

Admission

For entrance, you have to give JEE Advanced. For this, you must first qualify JEE Main and be in the top 2.5 Lakh students. After qualifying for JEE Advanced, you have to apply through JOSSA Counselling. After filling in your preferences, you will be allotted a seat based on the cutoff of that year. Everyone who has qualified for JEE Advanced is eligible for this course, i.e., Material Science and Technology. For general candidates, in the year 2022, this branch closed at AIR 13359 and for OBC (I availed this) it closed at OBC Rank 5077.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I want to be a software developer. The faculty are very kind and helpful. Almost every faculty member has completed there post-graduation from various established colleges. The examination scheme is a little bit slow here. Students can pass their semester exams if they are paying at least 45 per cent of their concentration.
