- Labs are too old. Most of machines are not in working condition.
- Infrastructure is too old needs to renovate
- Many buildings at IIEST are of no use , they need renovation and improvement, Most of area is unnecessarily occupied.
Course Curriculum Overview
Mechanical Engineering at IIEST completed its 101 years of journey. Mostly Professors have done their B.Tech/M.Tech/Ph.D from IIEST, JU, or from IITs. Each semester consists of 2 exams, one is mid-term (30 marks), and End-tem which is 50 marks. you can't get a decent CGPA by studying just before the exam, especially for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at IIEST.
Placement Experience
From the 7th semester, students become eligible for placements. PwC offers 25 students only in mechanical Engineering(around 10lpa CTC). Amazon offers 1.5 cr (off campus) to a mechanical Engineering Student last year. The average package was around 8Lpa last year. 80% of students got placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees per semester are around 68k/ semester but fee waivers are also there, If your family income exceeds 5 lakh you have to pay full fees. If between 1-5lakh then around 27k/semester. If below 1 lakh then around 5.5k/semester.
Campus Life
The annual fest is REBECA, recently 82nd edition of the cultural fest was done. One of the oldest Cultural and Reunion fest of IIEST Shibpur. Jubin, Arijit Singh, and Shreya Ghoshal also witnessed this grand fest in the past. In 2023 Anupam Roy, Ash King, and a few other celebrities were also there filled with enthusiastic Students. The Amenities Building is also on the campus where Reflexobeat (Dancing Club), and RoboDarshan(Robotics Club), Les Thespian(Dramatic Society) are also there for extracurricular. There is also a social Out reach program Run by students of IIEST Shibpur to bring poor children from slum areas into the mainstream.
Hostel Facilities
1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year students having 4sharing Rooms. which consists of a bed a Table an almirah for each of the students. The hostel mess is decent, and options are fewer but the food is decent. The hostel secretary and mess manager are the student Body. In the first year, there is a restriction for a hostel in and out timings but when you arrive in 2nd year, you get all free. A 1000-seater hostel is under construction. PGs are available there at 4-5k/month but you may face problems with food if you live outside the campus and also you will miss hostel life. After all these 4 years of engineering going to be one of the happiest parts of our life.
Admission
Admission Process:- JEE-Main followed by JOSSA/CSAB 50% of seats are reserved for Home State i.e. West Bengal. Reservation in each category GEN-EWS - 10% SC -15% ST -7.5% OBC-NCL -27% PwD -5% in every category I think IESTS should remove Home State Quota for more growth.
